This house has a few things....

    1. Who on earth lays out breakfast fro the estate agents photos?
    2. How many sofas in one room?
    3. The photographer looks like he is dressed to shoot a crime scene (I know covid PPE)
    4. What the hell do people do to afford to buy these homes?

What is that in the far left corner of picture 7 and also shown in the right of picture 8?

Well I guess the breakfast is there so show it's a breakfast bar?

The living room with all those sofa's looks like an old people's home. Pictures 15 and 17 seem to confirm that
    I think it's a lift in pics 7&8

We've kept all the doors and taken all the flush boards off. I'm sorry, but the carpets have gone 🙃 they were fantastic quality but it was a step too far!
Noooooo, please tell me that pretty one in bedroom 2 did not end up in a skip.

What a fabulous house. So much to love in there, it will make a wonderful home.

Funny isn't it how when we are young and go to visit grandparents we think that everything in the house is ancient. I've found that as I get older I'm more for the old pine dresser, cottage look and hate the modern grey chrome look. I often wonder if it's just personal taste that changes or if you really do become 'old fashioned' as you age.

Perhaps I should ask my younger visitors what they  think when they visit our house.
I almost kept that one!  We are definitely not for the modern look, not for this house anyway. All my lounge furniture is 2nd hand, old pitch pine sideboard, piano etc.  The kitchen is shaker style with wood worktop and an old desser top as the only wall cupboard. I will post some pics but haven't had time today and now its dark

WOW that is (will be ;) ) a beautiful home. You're very brave. Are you all still in the campervan or have you managed to make the  house habitable?

I remember posting on your thread way back in January. We took the relatively easy route of buying an extended 1970s bungalow needing only a little work, back in Shropshire. If we were 30 or 40 years younger, I would love to have to taken on a project like yours. Good luck!
I have now moved into the house, as of this week. Everyone else has been camping out in it for weeks 😂 the kids bedrooms are decorated, mine isn't.... The house has lots of damp, mainly roof related. All the drains were blocked with soil so water was just sitting against the house leading to some rotten joists.  There was also an awful lot of missing guttering which has pretty much rotted the sun room. Roofer is coming in October to sort the skews, gulleys etc. There is a little water ingress from these from time to time...We did a lime pointing course and sash window restoration course so that will keep us busy for, oooh, a couple of years! Hope you've settled into your house now. I love Shropshire, we campervanned on the top of Clee Hill, it was fabulous.
  • It's being run as a sort of B&B- that explains the seating in the utility and the rather crummy bed bases in some of the bedrooms (considering the size and style of house!).

Looks like a crossed between B&B and care home.... its has a confused identity!
Aspiring to be financially independent.... from my parents!
  • Have a look at this contender for the least tasteful loo seat and a pretty good effort by the EA to make it sound much posher than it is 4 bedroom detached house for sale in Autumn Wood, Okehampton, EX20 (rightmove.co.uk)
I wouldn't pay extra for a wooden shed that was originally bought from Harrods, would you?

Description clearly says its been run as a successful holiday let. Lift & adapted bath/shower are obviously designed for disabled users. Not many places put in that much effort.

Cop a look at this (pun intended)

It seems to have a children's home in a past live before being part of the police training centre.  Looks lovely on the outside apart from that weird barrier which I would hope will be taken down before being occupied.

PS the nearest street name is Rebus Close :)

Wonder what happened. One home split into two or three?
Or the other way round. Some old tenement flats had only one or two rooms.

    Plans for tenements in 1906.

Fascinating. It looks like originally not all of them had kitchens, and those that did had beds in the kitchen?

I know some flats of that period and a bit later didn't have kitchens are they were serviced flats with residents ordering meals from a restaurant on the ground floor, so I wondered initially if it had been like that, and perhaps divided. I assume that that kind of services flats were  aimed at a better-off  owner or tenant, though.
No these were very much for the poor end of the population. Shared loos out in the back yard. Beds were in recesses a bit like big cupboards. The one room flat was known as a single-end and the two rooms as room and kitchen. Even up to the 1950s the single-end could be occupied by 2 or more adults and their children.
Yes, once the plan was shown that was clear -
