It had the steepest staircase I've ever come across, and the bathroom and bedroom both opened onto the stairs so there was quite a drop at one side of the door frame!Would love to know more about the house.Always a shame to see a family home turn in to a ruin. Her courage will change the world.

I think it was a genuinely old house, and probably not built by professional builders. None of the internal walls were straight, my uncle wallpapered the sitting room, and there was no way to get around the creases as it wrapped the lumps and bumps.
The white bit on the end with the pitched roof on streetview was the kitchen with a big Aga on the back wall below the chimney, always cosy on Boxing Day as there would be ten of us there and more than enough to feed us!
I think there were just 2 more rooms downstairs, a lounge with dining area up a step from the kitchen, again toasty with the fire going, and what I guess was really a dining room, but had sofas in where me, my brother, and cousins would play while the grown-ups chatted next door.
Upstairs I think was just the bedroom and bathroom off the stairs, presumably the bathroom being moved into the second bedroom to bring it indoors.
It had no central heating (then neither did my grand parents' also in adjoining Melton Constable), so upstairs was always cold in December.
The plot was quite big (aunty would raise a cow or a few pigs each year) and my cousin's son now has a house on part of the plot, which is why I'd thought that the house had been demolished. It must be at least 5 years since Gwen passed away.
It had penty of character, but not really what people want these days. A fire is lovely to have, but when it's the only heating it's a lot of work. The stairs with rooms off would put most off it too.22 -
@YellowCarBlueCar that's fascinating! Thanks so much for sharing your memories. It reminds me a bit of the house a great aunt of mine lived in. What a shame it's no longer viable. I do hope that whoever buys it turns it into something nice.2

4 bedroom house for sale in Mill Street, Broadwey, Weymouth, Dorset, DT3 (rightmove.co.uk)
Piano room
I wonder if there is any regulations applied to make sure a walkway like that in a domestic property is safe to use or for the people under it? Annual checks or whatever?2 -

What I notice the listing appears to be silent about is who owns it and where it goes - presumably your over-the-road neighbours have access but unless either of you has a right of way through the other's home it's now a purely decorative feature, unless you like standing on it to watch the traffic.
Might be fun if you owned both of the properties..All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)1 -

Annual checks or whatever?Probably installed long before 'elf'n'safety was a thing and building regulations consisted of "this is near enough".In today's climate, the local council will probably do a drive by inspection once in a while and only serve an enforcement notice if/when it rots to the point of being a danger. Her courage will change the world.

Might be fun if you owned both of the properties..I was going to suggest a walkway for workers, but it didn't exist in 1870 - Photo from http://upweybroadweyhistory.co.uk/millstreet.htmlAnd a later photo from http://www.weymouth-dorset.co.uk/broadwey.html (possibly 1970s)
