    May require some work.

Small world, that was my late aunty Gwen's house, I thought it had already been demolished.   I spent every Boxing Day there as a child.

It had the steepest staircase I've ever come across, and the bathroom and bedroom both opened onto the stairs so there was quite a drop at one side of the door frame!
Would love to know more about the house.
Always a shame to see a family home turn in to a ruin.

@YellowCarBlueCar that's fascinating! Thanks so much for sharing your memories. It reminds me a bit of the house a great aunt of mine lived in. What a shame it's no longer viable. I do hope that whoever buys it turns it into something nice. :)

I wonder if there is any regulations applied to make sure a walkway like that in a domestic property is safe to use or for the people under it?  Annual checks or whatever?

My guess is no - it would no doubt have to be checked and comply with necessary buildings regs when built, but after that would be up to you as the owner, wit any requirements your insurers might impose.

What I notice the listing appears to be silent about is who owns it and where it goes - presumably your over-the-road neighbours have access but unless either of you has a right of way through the other's home it's now a purely decorative feature, unless you like standing on it to watch the traffic.
Might be fun if you owned both of the properties..

Probably installed long before 'elf'n'safety was a thing and building regulations consisted of "this is near enough".
In today's climate, the local council will probably do a drive by inspection once in a while and only serve an enforcement notice if/when it rots to the point of being a danger.

Yes, I can't figure out what the point of it is given it looks like it just goes to a similar house across the road. Would be more interested in what the roads authority thinks about it and what (if any) title rights there are for it to exist.

Yes, that is weird.  Both seem to have working doors up there.  I guess it just saves crossing the road when you want to borrow a cup of sugar.

Just up the road from me, they are very old mill buildings (in Mill Street), the gentle stream you see in the photos was once a thriving waterway, with substantial ships coming up from Weymouth harbour. When built the two buildings would have been industrial. There is a ford just down the road, which was probably busy with horse drawn traffic, hence the need for the overhead walkway.
