That first carpet, it beggars belief that any manufacturer would be sure they could sell it and someone designed it as well! They must all have been on something.NiaBrown said:Not sure what to say about this gem
Initially I was going to make a crack about it being stuck in a 70s time warp, but I was alive in the 70s and even I don't remember anything quite like this

Shame the neighbour has destroyed the original dormer and stuck a shed on the roof instead.

From picture 10 it looks like it would be a challenge to access the property to do the necessary building work. And another with an interesting street view!1 -

There is nothing worth saving of the burned out building, but neither is it an attractive plot for a new build.

In a stately home or mansion , or a William Morris/period type cottage, those sorts of over elaborate patterns can work Ok but certainly not from our modern eyes, in a typical house. From my parent's generation in the 60s and 70s , they grew up in pretty basic conditions, once it became affordable, I think it possibly had an association with aspiration and luxury, and was a distraction from otherwise sometimes grim surroundings. Same for the wallpaper: "I like a bit of pattern" my late father once said.GaleSF63 said:

The thing about empty rooms is that the carpet is so much more prominent than when there is a fair amount of unpatterned furniture in the room. But you need plain walls and curtains too!
