The floorplan names it as a "veranda".  The "balcony" is from the dining/sitting room space.

(I remember driving through the Gorbals in the 1960s.  It looks safer now.)

As an aside, it's a nice flat other than getting no light into the bedrooms.

As the large property adjoining is student accommodation, this probably was as well. The view of the rear (see Streetview) is a bit off putting

I'm not sure that I can see anything about that property that isn't off-putting. Except maybe the price.

There's a number of HMO's/student lets in the streets around there. I suspect it was one of those.

It's a shame as the sea front and park are absolutely beautiful, but some of the streets off it are run down.

About five mins walk away, you have houses such as these.

Surely there are not enough bathrooms/toilets for so many bedrooms ?

Bit skimpy on the bath proportion but I'm sure many of us grew up with one toilet to three bedrooms so proportion on that does not seem odd to me.  We were a family of six in those three bedrooms which may be the entirety of this household in six..
