    Good spot.

This one starts horrendous. Then spectacularly fails to get any better. I suspect the owners are in jail for crimes against taste.
I'm doing some walls here in pink, but paired with dark red on the woodwork - Does that make me a crim ?

I'm all for people bucking current interiors trends and being more individual - but if I bought that I'd be buying a shed load of emulsion and a box of rollers as my first task.  There were 3 houses on Escape to the Country this afternoon that were around that price - in Rutland - and they were all gorgeous - very subtle and tastefully presented.  I wouldn't have had to trouble the paint rollers with those. Although my tatty, largely second hand, furniture would rather spoil the effect.

I may be being unkind, but I've often wondered if some of the odd interiors we see in expensive properties are owned by people who have come into a lot of money, having been brought up without it, and can't differentiate between expensive and tasteful.  I feel I'm the opposite - think I have decent taste, but don't have the budget to make it a reality.

Have to say, I think it's rather wonderful. Don't think Mr S would agree however.... :)

Post a "finished" pic here if you dare! I have a cell suitable with plenty of honey, and have checked and the username NotFreeBear is available.
  • Initially I thought it was ridiculous but it's grown on me a lot. The living room shown in photo 5 is wonderful apart from the boring white ceiling.
Kitchen is great apart from the boring ceiling. I love the black staircase rails, such an underused colour.

But the bedrooms and bathrooms start to get dull and I don't like those metal hospital style children's beds.

I think if the rooms had an extra 2ft of height and some more detail/textured ceilings it would be great.

It's very individual and sadly I reckon that whoever buys it will paint it white and start all over again

It's certainly not 'colour' I personally didn't like - it was mainly the busy wallpapers and some of the ornaments. I didn't like the very intensely flowered dark wallpaper in the hall with thick stripes on opposite walls.  It felt like there was just too much of everything. For me, toning it down a bit would have been more pleasing.  I don't think I'd be comfortable with so much pattern, but I wouldn't like it all white either.

So they want an extra £300k for their redecoration job after 18 months..
I know several properties close to that one which are for sale and that price is too high, most people are having to reduce the price before sale.

Well it was pretty hideous before too. The garden does have some lovely trees where you can rest your weary eyes.

The only thing that's really "normal" about the house as it is now is the garden!

The way it's decorated now looks like something out of the house in the film "Beetlejuice" (after the new family moved in and completely changed it).

It would be interesting to see what things are in the books on pic 17 on the bookshelf, as these people are obviously blind!
