That is just.....awful. And those stairs immediately rule out families with young children as possible buyers.in_my_wellies said:1 -
That made me shudder a little. We sold our parents house in 2022 and it was quite similar to the traditional white rendered place to the right in the first photo (ETA, I realise it's not actually part of the house for sale, it's just an illusion). The family who have bought it are extensively extending it, with a very modern grey and glass, very blocky finish. But the planners stipulated that it had to retain the original white rendered original fascia that wasn't being knocked down.in_my_wellies said:
I have the mental image that the end result would be like the first photo and for a nasty stomach flipping moment, I thought that was it. I'm hoping it will be a bit more stylish than that - it's difficult to tell at the moment whilst covered in scaffolding and rough timber where the windows will be.0 -
I have to agree. Poor use of space, and that 'lower ground floor' looks fully underground.Silvertabby said:

oh I'm conflicted by this one! I like the overall look of the building but I'm horrified by the death stairs and obviously the astroturf.in_my_wellies said:
ETA I cross posted with other stair-haters! Never mind small children, I haven't been brilliant at stairs since I got varifocals, I'd break both my legs within a week.0 -
There is no way those stairs comply with building regulations. I would be asking the vendor embarasing questions about how that passed building regs and what other things they may have "got away" with.Cairnpapple said:

I was about to ask about building regs - I don't know much about them, but was pretty sure those stairs wouldn't be compliant.
I couldn't use those stairs anyway - I just cannot cope with walking over things with gaps - can't do piers or jetties either. I'd have to go up backwards on my bum!0 -
It would be AD(K) if anyone was interested: https://www.kentbuildingcontrol.co.uk/pdf/AD_K_2013.pdfBooJewels said:I was about to ask about building regs - I don't know much about them, but was pretty sure those stairs wouldn't be compliant.
I'd be suspecting 1.41 and possibly 1.340 -

From the notes, scaffolding etc. is it likely to be a building project that went horribly wrong? Or subsidence?
On the plus side you're only a 6 minute walk from The Old Spot, which I'm told is the best real ale pub in Glaaaaastershire. So somewhere nice to drown your sorrows1
