I doubt an architect came up with this as a design for a new home.
Big developments get a "master plan" stage done by one company. The local council make ridiculous requests on density, privacy, nature etc which get incorporated into the design and the estate and the houses.
"Gardens not overlooked" leads to houses with stupid windows for example. Density leads to 3cm gaps between houses
The master planner gets paid and washes their hands of whatever nonsense they've ended up agreeing on
The actual construction of this rubbish goes to a bidding process. Often big companions refuse to build it.
That company takes all the blame
The estate in Cambridge where all the houses fell down won lots of awards for the house designs and master plan.... Sigh2 -
