Car Tax fines have doubled

If they stopped the silly nonsense of different rates for different vehicles/ages/emissions whatever and just charged a flat fee there would be fewer people getting caught out with the £0 band. (And probably a whole lot easier to manage)
But yes, take some personal responsibility0 -

Did the move to a centralised system with online VED result in changes in how they could identify and issue fines?
I.e. could the rise in fines be explained by just better methods to identify them?0 -
Car 54, your wrong because I know you can get fined for having too many tickets on display. They quoted that on Parking Wars programme on TV last night.
It takes the warden too long to find the valid ticket.
Have you got your reminder sorted for next year yet?0 -

So stick a post-it in your windscreen. You could even put MOT, insurance and wedding anniversary dates on there, too.
Nothing. There could still be a colourful piece of paper sent out.
But that's not the point... The point of the change was to move the primary record from a piece of colourful paper, to a central computerised record. Can you see the benefit in that?
No, we don't HAVE to. Pay by RingGo or whatever, you don't have to display a ticket.
Not sending out pieces of colourful paper...
Nope. It's a ridiculous triviality to "miss". Apart from anything else, I once had a car broken into to nick the tax disc. Apart from the damage, I had to pay to get a duplicate. Then, six months later, when the old one expired... The !!!!!!!s broke in again to nick the replacement... Again, damage and cost of replacement.
So, no, I don't miss it one tiny bit.
You think the increase in people getting nicked is because they haven't been reminded by the V11...? Don't be so naive. It's idiots thinking they can chance it by skipping a month or three - just as they did in the days before SORN came in... And the classic:
You do get other idiots who don't bother taxing £0 VED stuff - and that's either because it's not got an MOT, it's not insured, or they don't think they have to...
That sort of vigilante traffic warden simply runs checks online now...0 -

That said many dont like that.
But thats not the point is it, we had the perfect reminder before didnt we?
Plus I dont like the way we cant buy a car these days with tax on the car. For example, I went to purchase a second hand car last year but it was an area of no phone signal, so how could I tax it online before I drive it the 60 mikes home? I took the chance and got home and wasent pulled over by the police and I taxed it straight away, but its a terrible risk, and one I don't like doing.
What was so wrong with the old system? It was fail safe whereas this isnt.
A 60 mile mobile blackspot?0
