Car Tax fines have doubled

I cut out a disc from paper the same size as the old one and stick that in the window, it says Tax in Post.0

So stick a post-it in your windscreen. You could even put MOT, insurance and wedding anniversary dates on there, too.renegadefm wrote: »I must admit I sincerely miss having it on my car as it was the most convenient way I can think of as a way to remember when your tax expires as you can glance at it whenever you like, compared to having to go online or something to check.
Nothing. There could still be a colourful piece of paper sent out.But doesnt prevent the Police in doing scanning checks in the modern way anyway. So whats wrong with having to display them?
But that's not the point... The point of the change was to move the primary record from a piece of colourful paper, to a central computerised record. Can you see the benefit in that?
No, we don't HAVE to. Pay by RingGo or whatever, you don't have to display a ticket. We still have to display parking tickets after all
Not sending out pieces of colourful paper...so where has it saved money?
Nope. It's a ridiculous triviality to "miss". Apart from anything else, I once had a car broken into to nick the tax disc. Apart from the damage, I had to pay to get a duplicate. Then, six months later, when the old one expired... The !!!!!!!s broke in again to nick the replacement... Again, damage and cost of replacement.Who else here misses having an actual car tax disc?
So, no, I don't miss it one tiny bit.
You think the increase in people getting nicked is because they haven't been reminded by the V11...? Don't be so naive. It's idiots thinking they can chance it by skipping a month or three - just as they did in the days before SORN came in... And the classic:renegadefm wrote: »Yeah but I'm not forced to do that, if you read the article millions have actually forgot because they don't have to.
Most people got far too much on their minds to think about things like car tax etc. But when it was a requirement we did it without thinking, all though it was an extra chore, we did it. Compared to just being organised.
You do get other idiots who don't bother taxing £0 VED stuff - and that's either because it's not got an MOT, it's not insured, or they don't think they have to...
That sort of vigilante traffic warden simply runs checks online now...Plus it cut down on dodgers because people could even remind friends or work colleges.0 -
And there it is. Right there. Reluctance to accept responsibility for just one of the many obligations car ownership confers on you. It's always someone else's job to do it for you, isn't it.renegadefm wrote: »Yeah but...
Got caught speeding? "Yeah, but the camera was at the bottom of a hill so it's unfair."
No insurance? "Yeah, but I didn't get a renewal letter through."
No tax? "Yeah, but my car is £0 rated so I didn't think I had to."
Major breakdown? "Yeah, but who checks their oil level regularly. Anyway, the oil light didn't come on."0 -
Surely putting tax in the post is missleading to the police? Its never in the post anymore.0
-
Well, no, it isn't - because there's nothing to post... But you used to be able to buy the tax disc by post, remember?renegadefm wrote: »Surely putting tax in the post is missleading to the police? Its never in the post anymore.0 -

Yeah but that way doesnt exist anymore is what I meant. Surely displaying tax in the post could lead to a fine.
A bit like that guy who had 20 odd parking tickets in his window and the traffic warden had to guess where the active one was. You can get fined for displaying missleading things in your car.0 -
See comments above.renegadefm wrote: »Yeah but that way doesnt exist anymore is what I meant. Surely displaying tax in the post could lead to a fine.
No, it couldn't. Unless it was interfering with the driver's vision.

No, you can't. Unless your're in business and in breach of the trade description legislation0 -
I always receive a postal reminder with a reference to use if applying online and how much the V.E.D. is.
Doubtful many of those "offenders" didn't receive one.
Or maybe more people are not buying in the hope they will get away with it?
I wonder how many of those "offenders" didn't have valid insurance or M.O.T. too?0
