Car Tax fines have doubled

Options
A new report has shown that more than double the anount of motorists have either forgot or dodge to tax their cars since we dont have to display a car tax in the windscreen. Here is the link:
https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/motors/2020/01/29/untaxed-vehicle-numbers-double-since-tax-discs-were-abolished/

I must admit I sincerely miss having it on my car as it was the most convenient way I can think of as a way to remember when your tax expires as you can glance at it whenever you like, compared to having to go online or something to check. But doesnt prevent the Police in doing scanning checks in the modern way anyway. So whats wrong with having to display them? We still have to display parking tickets after all, so where has it saved money? Traffic wardens issue out tickets like confetti in this parasite society.

Who else here misses having an actual car tax disc?

There’s nothing to stop you putting a disc on the windscreen with the renewal date.
Also, how do you remember to pay all your other bills? Sticking with motoring, we’ve never had insurance or MOT discs on the windscreen...
  • How hard is it to cut your own piece of paper out, write the date on it and stick it inside the windscreen? If that's what it takes to remind you, it's no more hassle than cutting around the old perforations and putting the tax disc in the windscreen.

Honestly, people want spoon-feeding rather than taking responsibility for themselves and their liabilities.

Yeah but I'm not forced to do that, if you read the article millions have actually forgot because they don't have to.
Most people got far too much on their minds to think about things like car tax etc. But when it was a requirement we did it without thinking, all though it was an extra chore, we did it. Compared to just being organised.

Plus it cut down on dodgers because people could even remind friends or work colleges.

I just think modern society keeps patting itself on the back, and the way we been forced to do things but not all of it is water tight.

I personally do pay direct debt.
That said many dont like that.
But thats not the point is it, we had the perfect reminder before didnt we?

Plus I dont like the way we cant buy a car these days with tax on the car. For example, I went to purchase a second hand car last year but it was an area of no phone signal, so how could I tax it online before I drive it the 60 mikes home? I took the chance and got home and wasent pulled over by the police and I taxed it straight away, but its a terrible risk, and one I don't like doing.

What was so wrong with the old system? It was fail safe whereas this isnt.

They saved money because they don't have to print millions of discs and the associated costs of posting them.

What they probably didnt bargain on was the amount of people that stopped buying one.

I would put money on them actually having lost more than they saved.

Journey the other day we spotted a load of cars clamped, they must have had a sweep of the area. wonder how many they missed. Only spotting those parked on the street and not those that parked in driveways or out and about at the time of the sweep.

Maybe cheap colour printers had an effect on the number of untaxed vehicles. From a few feet away it would probably look normal.

Never had one for MOT or insurance, how do you manahge with them or how do you think others should?

I use a calender for things like, it's not difficult.
    Car MOT
    Car insurance
    Car tax
    Birthdays
    Home insurance
    TV licence

How do you/everyone manage with the bottom 2 also?

You haven't answered post 2 question yet in regards to other bills.

Ask to use their home phone.
Ask to use their internet - laptop/PC
Pull over a short distance away when got signal l, doubt it takes 60 miles for one.

How did you insure it before you drove off?
  • Unbelievable that people think having a paper tax disc was a better system than paying by direct debit. Extra advantage - not having to find your documents and then go and have to speak to the miserable surly staff in the post office every six months!
