Last trip of the week to Aldi for more cheese and two of their 32p garlic baguettes to go with vegetable/tomato sauce for the pasta. Picked up my fave pizza for the weekend at the same time.
Total spend this week only £25.57. Last weeks spends were about £95, so it balanced out. My average weekly spend for the month is now £57/week which I am pleased about.

Still trying to get the hang of it all but I think I am getting better at curbing impulse buys and haven't been to a supermarket every day this month though it has been hard!! We still have seven dinners from the massive 'use up what is in the freezer' plan at the start of the month but I've got the long weekend off and am taking my dad out for lunch, need petrol and to replace a pair of boots so it will be an expensive day.

This week's big shop done, all in now at £395.17/£450.2 weeks and 1 big shop left until payday, reckon I'll go over, have step kids & in-laws next weekend. We usually have 1 veggie night a week, going to do 2 each week for the rest of the month to help the freezer stock last a bit longer and hopefully mitigate the overspend.
This was my first month of writing everything down and while there is still lots of room for improvement, I am definitely getting better at the mindset of 'what do we have'. If the next 2 weeks go OK will try to generally stick to 2 veggie days a week, and to make 1 of them when we have the stepkids. Also been looking at some new slow cooker recipes to try and mix it up a bit and ensure I'm stretching the meat we do eat as far as I can - I always bulk with lentils etc.

I’m at £131/ £200 so I’m doing ok. Cupboards full. I’ve been getting a free range chicken every Sunday, braising it with loads of root veg and it’s been doing the two of us for days. Had my daughter and family last Sunday and still had plenty left overs.Keep going everyone - we’re half way there!10

And I'm in great danger of going over this month, as I've spent a massive £101 between the market & the supermarket today. Part of that is because we have my 94 y.o. mother coming to stay later on this week, so I've been stocking up on thing I know she'll enjoy, and part because the Happy Couple will be with us for some of the weekend, planning The Event. So now I have less than £100 to feed anywhere between 6-10 people for the rest of the month, with at least 3 special diets between them, mother being probably-lactose-intolerant, the girls being pescatarians & - well, DS3's attempts to live largely on pizza, Haribo and pot-noodles.
BUT the freezer's pretty full, the sourdough starter's bubbling away again, there's half a sack of spuds & 3 trays of stored apples in the garage, & still some leeks & chard at the allotment, The Girls are laying 3-4 eggs a day - it's do-able!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)10 -
I'm at £240 spent out of £600 budget. Not sure all the spends from holiday are through yet. I know, it's a lot, my aim is to bring it down. I want to do it gradually to avoid making myself fed up with it and then quitting (as I've done before...)
I notice quite a few of us say we've spent a lot in the first week or so of the month - why do you think that is? I can think of a few reasons:- The cupboards were bare at the end of the previous month
- The need for thrift doesn't seem as great when there's more money in the bank/wherever
- We need a break from the extreme frugality that's forced on us by the end of the previous month...

Have got an ICELAND delivery coming later, of £36, so it'll make my total £78/120.My freezers will be packed full, so I won't need to spend much more this month , except on bread n milk
Have been doing a lot of batch cooking, n it's definitely curbed my spending;)"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"
