Suggesting to someone who uses a laptop for grocery shopping , is worried about support for W7 ending and has Norton on their phone , that they should install Linux on their aging laptop is just madness !
Nothing to do with the age of the OP - its just, well, do you think that they would want to ? or even be able to ? come on !!
Im not against suggesting a machine that has Linux already installed - iv nothing against Linux - but these threads with 'old dears' coming on, fresh back from knitting club asking for advice on choosing a laptop etc - only to have it suggested to them that they should start downloading Linux distros, creating bootable media, faffing around with obscure print drivers etc are just ridiculous !!
Stop it !
nb : No disrespect to any age group meant at all here - just against the Linux drum banging brigade who don't seem to have a filter
Edit to add : big props to Susan for having a go at upgrading to W10 in the first place , most people whom I work with just look at you blankly when you ask them what version of windows they are on !1 -

Once it is up and working, probably less problematic than windows ?0 -
Oh my goodness what a row going on here. Beginning to feel.sorry I asked.. Might be an old dear but I live a busy life active in the community etc.
I have a great relationship with my Grandchildren. I have my Granddaughter here at the moment prior to returning to University on Friday.
On Norton when my Daughter gave me the laptop there was a years Norton subscription with it. I have had other anti virus previously but if I have had a problem Norton Chat online had been very helpful..
Thank you all for the input I do appreciate it.. Sue0 -
Incidentally I do online banking. I make payments from my account directly into the bank of several people..Family, bill payment transferring money via Transferwise internationally. To name but a few. Sue0

If you are buying a Chromebook be very aware of the auto update policy which means that Google Chrome support for many bargain chromebooks is very short lived. You could be back in the same scenario if not careful. Check here https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366?hl=en carefully with any proposed purchase to aim for 6 years of support.0

Will check that out..Thank you Sue0
