* Soaked dishcloths in a basin of cold water with a bit of bicarb and vinegar added to freshen them up.
* Reusing teabags (at home)
* Watered down milk (at home)
* Feeding cats a mixture of both biscuits and meat to make the cans last longer
* WD40'd an old Swiss army knife and brought it back into use.
* Going to bed super early so I can turn everything off and stay warm wrapped up in my quilt while I read.Live the good life where you have been planted.

I managed to sleep until 7.45 :j
I am physically exhausted and my hips and knees hurt. I am coming down off the high energy I've had for months where I have been walking or running miles each day to use up energy. I feel old! Took some ibuprofen last night and oh gave me a massage :lovethoug

* dropping madam off to dd's for overnight visit
* all meals from stores - last night got soup out of freezer for lunch & chopped up gammon for pasta bake
* go through cc statement - didn't do yesterday
* get something out of freezer for dinner tomorrow
tonight we are going to London to see an acid house brasns bad performance. Should be super fun! We are driving so as if dd goes in to labour can make a swift exit.DF as at 30/12/16

Morning all!
lpp - sorry you've been unwell
DNMS - I hope your hips and knees ease up
Good news from the physio. She has said the OH's back is just incredibly tight, so she applied dry needling and her elbow. Maybe I'm in the wrong job. I have incredibly pointy knobbly elbows, like a bat - I bet I'd be great at acupressure!
Had a really good sort through at MIL's. 6 or 7 boxes down out of the loft and gone through. We also found tens of disks of family photos that weren't on the computer so OH was loading them all on. I have a large Sports Direct bag of bits to take to the cs, a few bits for us and a few bit remained. I also have a large collection of Moody Blues fan club newsletters to sell. I have seen them on ebay for £15 each so I have £200-£300 worth. Enough for our next family meal. OH was pretty sad by the time we got home. He had a little cry and munched a whole garlic bread. It's easier for me as they aren't my memories.
Today this plan is the allotment. I have my sights on a good stint there. Weather should be ok at least.
:heartpuls B/L/D from stores - done
:heartpuls Nip to cs with bag to get it out of the house before OH up - done. I almost had a "moment" as I had lugged the very heavy bag 10 mins down the road and found the shop closed. Luckily by the time I'd been to the post office and the Rightway, it was open!
:heartpuls Treat myself to some hedge shears in the Rightway - done. they were a bit dear but used Christmas money and I like to support a local business. Usually this shop is very cheap.
Heartpuls Go to post office. 2 unwanted books to OH's friend and 3 tapes recovered from mil's to my dad to be put onto a cd. - done
:heartpuls Allotment - done. Hard graft for 2 hours, but not much to show for it. Each bed seems really different. This one seems to have gone to grass as opposed to general weeds so it was really tough going to remove the roots. We only got half the bed done. Really enjoyed our plot robin though which kept landing more or less under our noses! I'm very tired and hungry now, but in a good way
:heartpuls Vegetarian haggis for Burns night! I use a version of a recipe from the Guardian and it was really tasty and filling. Kinda like a meatloaf/nut roast sort of thing. And good for using up bendy veg.- all prepped. I am a saint
:heartpuls Check PMP - done
:heartpuls Strip and remake bed. Put elec blanket on bed. I hadn't bothered yet this year but we may get a cold snap - done
:heartpuls Reapply squirrel deterrent to bird food
:heartpuls Research cardigan patterns for MIL - done
:heartpuls Poss get OH to take me to fabric shop although this may be tomorrow.
:heartpuls OH gigging so just chill with my knitting tonight. - done

Sorry your OH was sad CLF
It is sad, sorting through things after a family member has died. But at least the two of you are helping his Mum, so that she doesn't have to do it on her own.
It is fairly pleasant today, so I am determined to go for a good walk this morning, without OH or the dog, lazy pair, who never want to go far! Other than that: Did two or three miles, not sure exactly how far, and made OH and the dog come as well
Home grown fruit from freezer for breakfast Done
Put a loaf in the breadmaker before I head off out Granary bread today
All meals will be from stores - I made a chicken curry last night, from freezer ingredients that really needed using up, and that will do for dinner. Done
Check banks and update spreadsheet Still to do
Fold and put away washing on airer Done
Think what to do with the pork fillet I took out of the freezer yesterday. I was originally thinking a green Thai curry, but might try a red wine and mushroom sauce instead. I have the ingredients for either. Whichever it is will be tomorrow's dinner plus another meal, as there is quite a lot of it. Will do this tomorrow.
There will probably be more, but that is all I can think of at the moment.
Sold an unwanted item on FB - cleared a bit of space and £5 in my pocket
Used one of the endless stream of 'charity' bags that come through the door (and get dumped all over the pavement) as a free bin bag.
Washed out a freezer bag that had been used for veg, it can be used again
Hoovered the stairs
Bit of garden tidying - found more vine weevil grubs0 -

Thanks DawnIt's the second dad that he's lost, poor chap but he's dealing with it well. I keep telling him that it's ok to be sad. MIL isn't physically capable of sorting through the things due to a combo of fibromyalgia, needing 2 knee replacements and a historic shoulder injury so she does need our physical labour

Hope DH is feeling better today CLF
Hope some of our regulars who aren’t posting at the moment ally, trailingspouse et al are all ok and possibly reading along.
Been awake since 1.40. Got up about an hour ago and did some niggly research that was making my mind be in overdrive whilst trying to get back to sleep. I’m going to go back shortly. Plans for today (sleep dependant :rotfl:):
Make hummus from chickpeas I cooked earlier in week
Meals from stores
Make cake
Get ahead for the school week, uniform, lunches, homework
Drink lots of water
Quick tidy round, although it’s in decent shape
Try and get out in some fresh air later, possibly walk in the local (free) nature trail
Play with budgets to see what future options might be based on some possible changes a foot. Doing this may help me sleep rather than playing then over in my mind, despite it all being a bit hypothetical at the moment.
Have a good day all purps.0 -
Morning all!
Morning purps - I hope you get a nap later! OH is brighter now thanks
Where is everybody? Unless I just don't have enough of a life
I have a day off today to make up for working last Thursday. I feel like I might jinx it if I say this but I have been feeling chipper (mentally and physically) for a week now and this weekend (OH being sad and sore aside) has been so much fun and I've felt more like myself than I have in months. I don't want to hope too much so I'm just going to enjoy it while it lasts!
Today's plan:
:heartpuls B/L from stores
:heartpuls Dinner out as planned and budgeted
:heartpuls Make a rice pudding but use dates to sweeten
:heartpuls Research carpet moth killer
:heartpuls Make cross stitch template for small gift for MIL
:heartpuls Get OH to take me to the fabric shop (purely for research purposes)
Have a good one all

Long term lurker of this thread :T
Thought I'd post my energy successes...
Swapped our energy deal 45 days before the current one expires, and the new tariff is 30% cheaper for gas than a year ago. We have a crazy hot house (not my choice) and so that's a few hundred pounds saved for the next year.
Also referred my neighbour and a family member to the same deal, so they get £40 account credit each (and I also got £40 account credit) and so next month's energy is free.
Now here's hoping the energy company stay in business
Anyway don't forget to check your current energy prices. I was surprised of the difference.0 -
Hello all, Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.
Our "small things" this weekend are
* all sockets off when possible
* heating on occasionally but not before jumpers/slipers have been put on!
* popped to the library yesterday as we were going past it to put their economy 7 heating on at my parents as they're coming home from abroad today. Picked up 2 books for ds2 & dh got several audio books which he likes to listen to in the car on his daily commute.
* followed our meal plan for all food this weekend - currently reheating the beef stew for our lunch and taking a big tupperware of it to my parents this afternoon so that they can have something suited to this weather!
* prepped carrots for dh's packed lunch tomorrow, got the kids a hm mini banana muffin out of the freezer, weighed out 2 x 30g portions of doritos for the kids from big share bags we had for xmas time - they can have these tomorrow instead of buying a multi pack of crisps today. The kids are going to have cold sausage butties tomorrow for lunch - ds2 thinks its his birthdayWe would usually finish them all off with a brunch but we'd had plenty so I kept 2 back for their lunches.
* need to call into the coop on our way back, will look for ys'd fruit/veg but need bread to finish off packed lunches.
Other then that this evening will be home popped popcorn, cheese/crackers and a film we bought 2nd hand with vouchers from cex.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
