DH has done some bicycle maintenance for one of neighbours & she kindly cooked us a South African dish called Bobotie & gave us a bottle of chutney that she brought back from her last visit home.Delicious with boiled rice & peas. A small portion of Bobotie left over so will make into a pie topped with mashed parsnip & sweet potato.Be Kind. Stay Safe. Break the Chain. The Bobotie pie was delicious 🤤 Loads of leftover mashed sweet potato & parsnip which was fried today with a few lo boiled potatoes & mash + lo roasted tomato. This was served up with bacon & a fried egg on top - lunch for DH & I. DSis had 3 rashers of bacon in the last slice of bread.Nothing binned since the mouldy carrots 🙂Be Kind. Stay Safe. Sad to report that the 4 small portobello mushrooms we bought from the farm shop last Wednesday which were in a paper bag went mouldy in 2 days & were consigned to the wormery 😔☹️ No idea of the cost ☹️However, one success - we harvested some more hg potatoes including 5 largish ones. I scraped & boiled all the smaller ones which the 3 of us ate with baked-in-foil salmon fillets & peas. Sooooo tasty 😋 DH mentioned that perhaps I should have been weighing the hg potatoes 🙄 why didn’t I think of that 🙄 So the remaining potatoes have been weighed coming in at 0.816 kg. Bearing in mind that all have been grown from ‘eyes’ we are happy 😃 Will never be self sufficient but a lovely treat once in a while. 5 more potato bags & 2 pots have been planted with ‘eyes’ so fingers crossed for winter/autumn 🤞Finally have 2 tomatoes starting to go red 🥳 out of about 100 😱 The 2nd planting of lettuce & chard is growing well, as are the rocket & kale.Be Kind. I bought a bag of new potatoes a couple of weeks ago, which weren't getting used.
So today, i have parboiled them, coated them in oil while they were warm.
Roasted some for dinner and they were lovely.
Just wrapped and packed the rest and put them in the freezer.
Hope they freeze ok.4 -
