nursemaggie: Considering this was a Sainsburys shop I was pleasantly surprised at the final bill. Sadly, we don't have much of a choice here - one large Sainsburys, two local Co-ops (limited choice and a tad expensive for most things), an M&S (expensive and a fair walk to get there) and a petrol station shop. I sometimes take a trip into town (Morrisons, Heron Foods, B&M) for certain items but have to remember that whatever I buy has to be lugged home on the bus.
The ys items I got comprised 2 steak slices, 4 cod fishcakes and a pack of peppered beef. The lamb was on promo (£3/kg savings) as were some of the store cupboard items. The Cornish pasties, white fish fillets and chicken legs were from their Basics range. F&V was mushrooms, red & white grapes, bananas and salad stuff to go with what I already have in (potatoes, onions, carrots, peppers, spring greens and broccoli). Plenty of other stuff in the freezer and cupboards so I reckon the Frugal February challenge to myself should be do-able.
Tonight we're having a fakeaway prawn curry with rice and there's a selection of chilled desserts in the fridge should we need afters.
Siebrie: So nice to hear you're teaching your DDs to cook - a skill they'll thank you for.
Right, I think the chicken legs will have cooled down enough now to strip the meat off and the lamb will probably be done too.

Oh Jackie I hope you change your mind. Your very much on many of the old Style threads.Yorkslass I have to go on the bus for all my groceries. I take my trolley with me most places. There is a Morries about a mile away. I have to take the bus. it takes me an hour to get there, down a very steep hill. There is no way I would be able to push the shopping up the hill.I have the choice of a Sainbugs if I go into town but I still have a long walk to it so I don't go very often. I too find it a bit expensive. There is also an Ald* along the same road. There both difficult to get to because of so many roads to cross and one really wide road that has continuous traffic. The other roads are curved so you can't see the traffic. I often end up picking stuff up from M&S because it is right by the bus stop to come home. Now that they have changed back to loose fruit and veg I find I don't have to buy so much so I don't throw out so many veg. I think It may work out no more expensive and I have the advantage of all the YS stuff I can put in the freezer for another day. All of their stuff keeps longer.

Sorry Jackie I missed out loved I'm sure it just the site having bugs to iron out. It's impossible to get these right until they are being used. I'm sure you will be able to navigate somewhere very easily if you just click on Forum at the top and you get all of the threads in just the same way as we used to. If you go I think hundreds of us will really miss you. You give such sound advice and we all love your reminiscences and to hear about your lovely family.

Jackie, another one who values all your hints and tips and would miss you very much. Perhaps give it a few days to settle down and ask your lovely grandson to set up the bookmarks for all the threads that you read and/or post in, that would give you access to them with just a couple of clicks. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. Jackie, please reconsider. You are so down to earth and have loads of hints and tips. Try adding Old Style to favourites at the tope of the page and saving it as a bookmark on your Desktop page. You can then just click on it and come straight onto the Old Style threads.

!!!!!!...It'll be ahsame if you go. Why not ask one of your DGS if they can fiddle with your browser and the site to see if they can make it acceptable again? I miss the old green look, and I'm still trying with this new style [ after bocking lots of elements using adblock plus] ...Going to see if I can change the skin, and waiting for the snagging to finish because once the niggles have been ironed out it might be better...Come back in a week or so and see if it's any better then.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi8

Another one who will miss Jackie - I hope she will give it another try. I had problems logging in at first (had to reset my password three times) and, although I don't mind the layout/colour scheme, I'm not too keen on the navigation. However, I have persevered and am getting used to it (slowly
).
The chicken legs are real value at £1.85 as I've got enough meat off them to do three meals for two. The bones etc are in the SC for the obligatory stock; not sure whether I'll use it as the base for a soup or not - I'm fancying a risotto as we haven't had that for a while. Meanwhile, the lamb has been sliced/chunked by DH this norming and again good value. Some slices for today's dinner, some cold with salad, some frozen in gravy and I'll use the chunks for a Moroccan style casserole.
Awful weather everywhere it seems - I hope everyone is safe and well. We had rain/wind overnight, even worse this morning but at least now the rain has stopped. Still pretty windy although I've seen some blue strips of sky and the sun has put in an appearance now and again. I hope tomorrow will be better as I have a nurse appointment for a T2 diabetes blood test. I'm beginning to feel like a pin cushion but, on the plus side, since being diagnosed I'm eating much more sensibly and have even lost 11lbs without too much effort (I do miss the sweet treats though.) Still, it's worth it to not have to take meds.
nursemaggie: I have a shopping trolley too but I think I made the wrong choice. The bag is huge and keeps slipping off the frame. Next time I'm in town I'm going to look for a cycle shop to buy one of those cord thingies to hold it on.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.8
