I have humus with celery, carrot sticks, I cut peppers and cucumber into stick too and I usually have some baby plum tomatoes. I have the odd bread stick with them. It makes a lovely evening meal if I don't feel like cooking. When my DD and grandson come to visit we take humus with us with the rest of the picnic. We have been taking the veg for years as I started doing that and not having sandwiches when I went to weight watchers.3

Another idea for hummus if you have no tahini, is to substitute some smooth peanut or other nut butter.3

Morning chums , well February is with us and the snowdrops are out and my daffs are poking their spears up in the garden Fingers crossed we will soon be having a nice sunny spring and winter will be behind us at last.
I have checked my cupboards and can't see anything I need at all this week foodwise I am out tomorrow night and Friday and Saturday night so only need Mon, Wed,and Thurs to cook for this week so no need for any food shopping as there is more than enough in the freezer and cupboards, so hopefully for another 'light' food shopping budget this month. Last month was helped by leftovers from Christmas
Just going to have a forage in the freezer for tonight's dinner, I have HM soup and crackers for lunch today
Onwards and upwards chums

Another hummus lover here! Since I found out how to do a DIY version I've never bothered with a shop-bought one. Sometimes I throw a red pepper into the FP plus a bit of chilli powder for a spicy version. I have a pouch of ys chestnut puree in the cupboard that has a hummus recipe on the back; I'm looking forward to trying that.
Tonight we're having salad for dinner with hm cheese & veg quiche from the freezer. That will take care of all the salad stuff except for one tomato. Not much fruit left either - two apples and two clementines - but I have dark cherries in the freezer and tinned fruit if I need them.
The cake tin was empty so yesterday I baked a coconut cake (the oven was on anyway for hm cottage pie) and this morning I filled it with lemon buttercream and put lemon curd on top sprinkled with toasted coconut. Yummy.
I need to buy milk tomorrow so will take just enough cash for that. The combi boiler is booked in for a service too so I'm hoping the engineer comes sooner rather than later.
Coriander seedlings are doing well but no signs of life yet from the chilli seeds.Be kind to others and to yourself too.3 -
I think chili seeds take quite a while. You will probably take a lot longer, have a look if anyone has done a YouTube video on them.
I've been to M&S and got a very big haul of YS stuff. I shall still have to go to Morries tomorrow because I don't mind a few pence extra to be able to buy loose and less veg but I'm not paying full price on most of their other stuff. I will buy their bread because it lasts twice as long as anyone elses bread, their milk lasts a lot longer too.4 -
Oh joy! The chilli seeds are sprouting
And, even better, the combi boiler has been serviced and all is A-OK.
Bought milk on Tuesday as planned and have done the first "proper" shop of the month today. Several YS items, some promo stuff and used a £4 MOC so the final bill came to £38.95. I was happy with that as I got a lovely half leg of lamb (enough to do us 3 meals), a tray of chicken legs, white fish fillets, Cornish pasties, steak slices, fishcakes, butter, cheese, F&V and other assorted items. I'm going to try making it through to the end of the month with spending just £10-£15 more which will make it a very Frugal February indeed!
Be kind to others and to yourself too.7 -
Yorkslass The chili seeds were just waiting for the boiler to be serviced.Sounds like you must have got your lamb, chicken etc YS as I usually find by the time I have bought the fresh veg I have spent nearly £30. I last went shopping on Monday, I still have 2 carrots but only because I found one left over from last week, 2 parsnips a small sweet potato, broccoli, half a cauli and a little salad. I will have to go shopping tomorrow for Bread and maybe some more veg. I do have a few meals in the freezer and lots in my store cupboard.6

I am teaching dds (11 and 8) to cook; they get to pick a meal every Saturday and Sunday that we will prepare together. For tomorrow, dd1 has picked 'pitabread', and on Sunday dd2 will prep and serve a large 'deconstructed salad / tapas / gado gado' type dish. "Lots of veggies we can pick and nibble, Mummy!" For the moment, I am just teaching them to prep parts of the meal, for instance to light the stove and brown the meat, how to safely cut the veg, how to lay the table nicely, how to serve the dish. Breadmaking and other items from scratch will follow as soon as I know that they can assemble a basic healthy meal for themselves. Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.597
