• Bill payments all happening as normal/planned. Made a one off payment for all the ebay fees from the lego/duplo instead of waiting for them to invoice me in April, meaning that will be settled when the payment leaves the bank next week. Should end the month at almost £0. Will have to see how things pan out but there may be some surplus in the budget next month, even with the extra year of maths subs to pay for - I am hoping to have a bit of a buffer/emergency fund built up by the end of 2020. Perhaps around £500. Interested to hear how other people have their EF set up - whether it's a buffer or a separate account?
• Today's plan: update my business finances. Haven't done this for a while, but it needs doing in advance of the new tax year so I can submit my tax return in good time. I usually do my tax return within the first week or so of the tax year. My personal cut off is June-ish, because that's when the TC renewal comes around and I really hate giving them estimated figures! I have several friends who leave it until the end of January each year and it causes me so much anxiety, even though they're not my finances! So. Business finances. Not really looking forward to doing them; 19/20 was not a great year for my businesses and I hate seeing the actual number evidence of that right in front of my face where I can't ignore it.
• Video called some friends last night, because it was one of them's birthday. Wished her a happy birthday and we raised our non-alcoholic drinks togetherit certainly wasn't the original plan of meeting up for lunch in a café but it was sufficient, in the circumstances.

My understanding of the "help" for self employed folks: they look at your previous tax returns from 16/17, 17/18, 18/19 and average your profits (if you have them - thankfully I do, but many don't). You are then eligible for 80% of that average pcm. For me that works out as ~£166 a month. I'd hardly call it a grant if they're going to claw it back later by changing my tax code/NI contributions. Not sure how I feel about it tbh, other than angry at all the arbitrary lines they've drawn after stating that nobody would be forgotten.Rule 7: If you're not changing it, you're choosing it.

• Prolific payment landed and has been transferred to OP/SHTF acc. Current balance: £156.32. Managed to do 6 surveys today - it's much easier to do them when the laptop is in my possession, not Small Small's!
• Business finances updated. Both businesses have done worse this year than last year (I know, technically we still have 10 days or whatever left, but there isn't going to be a massive change in that time). This is the part of being self-employed that I always feel very blue about, and was part of the reason I had applied for a job at the beginning of this diary.
