Well hello. It has been a little while... so I suppose an update is due!

First. I now have a p/t job alongside my business. This month is my second full month working there. Payday is the 1st, so that works well with our bill paying already in place.

Second. I'm sure you'll all be thrilled to hear we've made some progress on the new chicken accoms. The old run has moved, wood has been ordered to clad it, and the garden looks very odd! One of our remaining adult chickens died (that makes 3 pets gone in less than 6 months, we must be done now, right??). At the same time the other one went broody, so we bought some fertile eggs and now have 1 adult chicken and 3 chicks who are less than a week old.

Third. I'm putting OPs on hold for now so we can save towards paying for the roof replacement ourselves rather than trying for a mortgage extension. I'm dubious we would be approved, and I'm not willing to take the risk right now. The changes in cost of living and various other things are making me anxious (as I'm sure they are for a lot of people). I'll reassess in a few months and see how things are.

Hello 👋 lovely to see you.

Congratulations on your new job, sorry to hear about your chicken passing, how exciting to have chicks.

Is there a family member you could borrow the money for the roof from so you could get it done this side of winter?

The only people that would be possible with would be my parents. Honestly don't know how I feel about that as an option, but I suppose you're right - it is one.

Only you could know if this is a reasonable option, and how open they would be, they may be more supportive if you are able to show the reasons for wanting it done before saving for it first, can offer a repayment schedule whether that is how much a month or year or that it will be repaid by a set date.

How long is it likely to take to save for the roof?
