You can still upgrade to win 10 for free. And the specs on your pc will handle that fine.0

If I update to windows 10 will I lose all my programs and have to download them again. that's the only thing putting me off at the moment.0

If you have down loaded them already save the downloads, if you do a clean install, recommended, then you will need to re-install. But you will have a clean 10. Of course you could upgrade but not guaranteed to work, and will carry forward all the crud.If I update to windows 10 will I lose all my programs and have to download them again. that's the only thing putting me off at the moment.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . this is true; helped a neighbour to upgrade (not clean install) the other day and was suspicious when the desktop image was all black. somehow Pictures folder contents were lost in the upgrade. Ensure you have a backup of docs/pics/downloads etc before doing a clean install OR upgrade install.debitcardmayhem wrote: »you could upgrade but not guaranteed to work0 -

A clean install is the easy bit (after you have done a couple) but it is quite daunting reinstalling all the programmes that you use often and not so often.
Having the latest versions of all your progs saved to reinstall is very good advice. I have found the progs I didn't reinstall because I had not used them for a while were always the ones I needed urgently at a later date.
Saving the settings for browsers and email progs are vital before you reinstall.0 -
I did a clean install as I figured if I tried to upgrade instead I would run into more problems and possibly have to re-install or update some programs anyway.
Also, it was a good excuse to get rid of stuff and start with a clean slate
I don't have many programs anyway and am installing them bit by bit.
Good tip by Joe9090 about making a note of the settings you used for the browsers and internet providers. I did not do this, doh - so struggled abit knowing which options to choose from the defaulted ones.0 -
