Is the HDD not seen as a secondary drive? Does it still have it's original cables attached?

Yes, I think so. Just gone into Device Manager and can see it (WDC .........). Still finding my bearings on Win10 and never transferred anything like this before. So not sure what to do exactly yet

    System proxy settings is fine.

Thank you for confirming that :)

Does it have a Drive letter, like D or E on the This PC page in Windows Explorer?

If not, you need to go into Disk Management in order to allocate one. Do not choose to format the drive.

For anyone else, Windows Explorer has changed its name to File Explorer.

File Explorer is found by clicking on the Folder icon, on the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen (thank you to Everywhere for providing this information).

    It is showing as

    SSD: C
    Recovery: D
    OS: F

So does that mean the old HDD is 'F'?

Have a look. :) Double click on it and look around in there.

Trust me to go the long way round, hee hee, thanks. Will edit my post for others too :)

Right-clicked on F Drive. Shows windows stuff etc. Click on 'Users' and can see folders for each one but when I click on them they say 'You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Continue or cancel.' Also they seem to be empty.

Do I click on continue at this point? thanks :)

Yes, you need to continue. Then you'll be able to access your pics and docs etc and copy them over if you wish.

My old HDD with Win7 on will be used as storage for my photos, video clips, documents and notes etc.

    1) Do I re-format or wipe this to remove Win7 and all programs still on it?

NO, NO, NO do NOT do this.

Unless you are struggling for space on it, just leave it as is.

If you are struggling for space, you can selectively delete the windoze folders.
  • Looks like you are conquering your stress, well done on the install, what size SSD did you buy and how much is used on your old disk (f)?

I meant that after I had successfully transferred all my photos/docs etc I would then like to remove everything else on there that is now surplus to requirements eg. Windows 7, old programs etc.

Any programs I need, I will just download the latest versions (via the manufacturer websites) onto the SDD.

Surely this is a better option to get rid of everything by formatting the HDD? I can then move the photos and docs etc back onto the clean HDD to use as backup storage.

Hope you are well, my friend - sorry for delay in replying
