As a Digital Spy user I am familiar with nested quotes (hate them there too). However, DS manages to make removing any quotes you are not responding to clear. Here you are still left with the "previous quotes" option.

Please can something be done to minimise the nested quotes when replying. A post with a huge string of responses becomes impossible to read/find the point where you can respond on a mobile.

I'm not sure if this helps but you can limit the number of quotes nested in "Edit Profile".

No doubt this was asked in the now closed thread. How do we link directly to a post? The quote function grabs the url but only links to a new post if logged in .
We shouldn't need to edit any code to link to a post.
Each post should have a unique url somewhere even for non logged in viewers (normally at the time stamp or hovering over) but I can see no indication anywhere.

The way I have found of doing this (not necessarily the best way!) is to click through to the profile of the poster, then select Replies from the menu on the left.  Scroll down until you see the post you want to link to.  Click on the board name of that post and it will take you to a page with that post at the head.  Copy the URL in the location bar of your browser - e.g. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/76840450#Comment_76840450 - and use that as your link.
I'm sure there must be better ways, but that's the one I'm using in the New Forum FAQs list, and it works.

No, it just limits what you see once posted. Have mine set to one as no fold gave me all the nested posts.

  • I don't like that you can't see a snippet of what the thread is about by hovering over the title or how many pages a thread is. Showing what threads you have previously viewed isn't as good as before but that just my view.

Also, why are there only 10 posts to a page? - Again, referring back to Digital Spy, who manage 25 per page. Their use of Vanilla seems less clunky, yet they have far fewer options for editing how an individual sees things.

I mentioned in in the previous thread. Why is the 'new posts' button hidden in the forum home page only?
The search box is shortened on that page and extended on all other pages.
Why not have 'new posts' on all pages?
  • Also, why are there only 10 posts to a page? -
This makes it really difficult to follow a thread.   Should be 40 posts like the old board.
