For those who have mentioned The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber, have you tried The Book of Strange New Things by the same author ? I loved this book, thought provoking and very relevant to the times we are in.

The Crimson Petal is the first of his I've read/am reading.  I like his writing style and the characters are very good but not a lot is going on.  I will persevere though.  I don't think I can read or watch anything relevant to out current time just now, maybe in about 30 years.

I am now the proud owner of Goodnight Mr Tom, sent to me by a lovely poster on here.

I had a sort through my kids books that had been stored in the loft and posted them as freebies on our local neighbourhood app (Nextdoor), I thought some people with kids might appreciate some new reading material, they have all been rehomed now.  I have kept the ones which were special to us though.

I logged onto my library account at the weekend and they have extended the return dates to June bar two which can't be renewed because someone is waiting for them.  I need to get cracking with those two.

Unless they are digital, how will they access them when the library is physically closed??!
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

Rosa - I thought the sooner I finished them the better and then if for any reason I was able to return them sooner rather than later I wouldn't be half way through.

Just finished "The Salt Path" by Raynor Winn. The most moving book I've ever read. Now reading "The Flat Share" by Beth O'Leary. Both Mothers Day presents.
  • adrisco   I loved the Salt Path too.  We were lucky enough to meet Raynor Winn at the Wealden Lit Fest last summer (seems like a lifetime ago now) and she was a lovely unassuming lady who is quite amazed by the success of her book (a journal originally, which her children encouraged her to get published).  Dressed in her jeans and checked shirt she spoke eloquently about how the journey and experience of having nothing, changed her forever.  It was my book of the year.
I have started the long anticipated Hilary Mantel epic, The Mirror and the Light, but wish I had bought the kindle version as I am finding it very cumbersome to handle as I have problems with one of my wrists at the moment.  I may shelve it for a while and go on to something lighter both in subject and weight!!!
    Happy reading everyone.

DH bought me The Mirror and The Light the day it came out. I'm only about 1/5 the way through (enjoying it - wasn't expecting to after a couple of reviews I read), but also finding it terribly cumbersome, particularly in bed  ;) We don't do Kindle books and I do like a hefty tome, generally so am happy to persevere.....
