I did this the other day! Lost my old iPad charger & couldn’t find it anywhere so finally went out & got one in the Argos sale... only to find it when I kondoed a drawer later that day!

And now I have 3........ The missing lead turned up this morning in the drawer under the bed where we store cards and rolls of wrapping paper. I really don't think I put that there deliberately, so I think I'm imagining the 'when I can't find this' conversation. I'm obviously completely losing my marbles. Wonder if they will turn up?

    Christmas decs all put away.
Managed to clear a large wine rack that had about a dozen bottles left on it. Some are OK, some given away and DS1 is going to pick the rack up and take to the sailing club for anyone who wants it. It might be useful for the cellar or behind the bar as it holds about 40 bottles......not that I drink.......much ;)
Ive also Kondo'd a committee so will be getting rid of a large file of paperwork too ;)

Hello! I'd like to join in, although I'll 'fess up now that I'm not a totally convinced Kondo'er (really interesting thing on radio 4 today about the traces of lives left behind and what we owe to the future, which given I'm a historian made a big impression... I am 'archiving' some important personal documents and not just digitising and ditching) But I do like a good declutter and am moving to a much smaller house soon so it's pretty urgent!

I've spent the last couple of weeks FB selling and giving away like crazy, saving all proceeds in a house move virtual pot in an online savings account. Sold a couple of phones on Music Magpie (one rejected ) and a whole heap of Wii games on TradeInForCash and WeBuyGames, plus a posh pen I was given years ago but never used (too good for me - using a Bic right now! :o)

I'm Kondoing on my own as OH in hospital so it does feel a little overwhelming but I like people's ideas of at least an object a day so... today I moved on a bag of notebooks to a fellow Freecyler  Tomorrow someone's coming to collect some old toiletries and hair straighteners :j

Has anyone else Kondo'd ahead of moving house?

:) Great progress is being made, I feel that a lot of us will be turning a clutter corner in 2020 (and hopefully not stubbing our toes on anything while we are turning).

Came in from work and grabbed a couple of bags of Stuff to go to the chazzer and headed right out with it. Some stuff is for their ragging collection, one piece for their electronic collection and some usable stuff, too. Had a good old natter with charity shop friends while I was there, a pleasant unwind to a hectic day.

I am contemplating a storage stool and will be emptying that in the next little while, cleaning it and planning to get it outta here. It has no home and sits in front of a cupboard which I do need regular access into. I will use the craft supplies it contains to finish a particular work-in-progress, then donate the remaining supplies.

Feeling a bit wobbly reading that last sentence, but this particular category of makes take up a lot of room when completed, room I do not have. Once they've gone, I will forget about them and only remember when I feel the warm glow of pleasure that some other crafter is feeling when they get their hands on them.

Some other kitchen items have been hauled out of the deep pan cupboard and are now slated for donation. I've never used the big cast iron pan (£1, bootsale) and, if I'm entirely honest, it's a bit too heavy for me to use safely anyway. Let someone else get the benefit.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

what you said, thats the key, to forget about stuff once it has gone. Maybe that will give me the kick up the backside that I need to remove some hard stuff from my garden. Still dithering, they are ornament but no use and everything has to work for its space these days. I don`t feel joy looking at them, more like` they have to go` but it`s not like I could flick them into a car to take them, they are big and heavy so would need huffing and puffing or `horror` my sledgehammer to make that final decision
  • I find there's a first round of decluttering that's pretty straightforward (stuff you know you don't use or need) but then the second round is so much harder like stuff you like but probably won't ever actually use that much. I read on one decluttering thread about moving on stuff from a life you no longer have or won't have in the future and found that really helpful. Definitely helped me shift some posh shoes from a previous career that I won't be wearing in my current one! So you keep the stuff for the life you are actually living...

Today I have some free bits being collected from a FB giveaway site (found an extra brand new sponge thing to add to the bag this morning :D) and someone else visiting to check out some furniture I'm selling ahead of the move and really need to shift.

Itching for a kitchen clearout though find those kind of things hard to shift as they're all technically useful!

  • Hi Kondoistas!
I’m back doing a kondo update. The living room is covered in various groups of items so that I can’t avoid them any longer (is Tupperware a category? :rotfl:

One category I have never really addressed and want to start doing is digitising photos. How does everyone “store” theirs? In a cloud-based facility? I keep getting the “big brother” collywobbles when I think of it. Any tips?

We did last year. It was OK up to a point, but we still brought stuff with us that we ended up having to Kondo when we got here, as some choices had to wait until we could see what would fit where (like you we're in a smaller house than before).

Yes indeed. Twice last year I decided to wear shoes from a previous life I hadn't worn in years, and on both occasions they literally had bits falling off them as the plastic soles had failed. Let them go to somebody else whilst they can still be of real use.
