It was (I think) General Patton who quipped that no plan survives first contact with the enemy, and that is certainly true of a plan for moving house not surviving first entry into the property!
:rotfl: Yes indeed!
That's a super helpful post :T The stairs will be ok - the box room has a box in one corner, which is where the stairs come up underneath. A total pain in terms of that room but good for moving in!Choose kind0 -
Thanks PW - yes, agree. I got quotes from 4 firms. My dad moved from our family home (3 bed semi) into a teeny flat in London with his new wife, and one firm did a sterling job of combining moves and storage. So went with them because it's the skills and experience you're buying (as well as the van). You can tell a lot from how they treat you as a customer too (particularly as a woman) and this lot were professional from the off, which is more than could be said for a couple of the others.
In terms of today's Kondo'ing I finally took down a mysterious box from on top of a kitchen cupboard, which was found to contain about 100 coffee pods that expired in 2014I've composted the pods themselves, which made the bin smell lovely, now looking to see if I can recycle the foil packages in the new crisp recycling bins. Anyone know? It looks like a similar material so hoping so.
I also feel super proud of myself for clearing out the fridge nasties  I am totally feeble when it comes to food that's gone off. But with OH in hospital there was only me to do it. Not really Kondoing but a personal triumph!Choose kind1 -
These pods have survived 3 house moves in that time, which is pretty embarrassing!Choose kind0

Righty, colander and hernia-inducing pot now at the chazzer, I had a mooch around three different chazzers after work and bought nowt. There was a superb bath sheet towel for £1 but I don't need it, the 'rents don't need it, and no one I know needs it.
I'm in my mid fifties now. I have never in my life found it necessary to buy a towel new. I started out as an adult with donated towels from the family home and added some excellent secondhand ones as I saw them. I believe I may have all the towels I will ever need; I find as I don't tumble dry stuff, textiles last pretty well.
Came home and spent a lump of money on a futility company website but that's them sorted for another six months.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

No don't put the pods in with crisp packets, nobody will thank you for it.
Have a look and see if you can find a local Terracycle recycler. They will accept them and arrange for recycling, usually raising money for charity. If push comes to shove and you can't find somebody local to you, if you are happy to pay for postage to do your bit for the environment I can PM you an address for somebody who uses them to raise money for a hospice and a cat charity.Make £2025 in 2025

Discovered an odd situation today. Checked the rat traps and one box had been tipped upside down with the entrance knawed. It's made of thick plastic. Trap hadn't been checked for a couple of days, yesterday morning we had a massive dog fox in the back garden - something we've never had before, it climbed a 6ft fence. Finding the damaged trap, we've concluded there must have been a rat or mouse in there that the fox has finished off. (Foxy on his way out climbed the other fence to the neighbour, then back into ours, then back out the way it came in.)Make £2025 in 2025

Kondoed a magazine rack & I need to get rid of some glasses/cups as we got some new ones for Xmas & there isn’t room in the cupboard.
I also kondoed a heap of books but I may try to find a few more to get rid of.
I am also kondoing a bed frame tomorrow & also hopefully a dining table & 4 chairs - I can’t wait to get the chairs out of the way so I can get the hallway table back into the hall & out of my living room!!!“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A.
