I’d never heard of that so I’ve just googled it. I’m not aware that there’s any of these on my credit file.

    CIFAS is a separate body.
Only Some forms of Cifas marker are visible by checking your Credit Report.
So if you really want to know then you have to have to request the info from Cifas.

To be fair, I think people are trying to tell OP that something must have happened that HSBC's people/systems/processes/algorithms perceive as unusual or suspicious in some way, which isn't the same thing....

Yeah to be fair this thread does seem a bit more measured than others i’ve Seen, maybe because HSBC are getting a reputation for this!

If you're looking for similar stories of accounts being frozen/blocked/closed and banks being unable to divulge reasons, you'll find plenty of them on this very board, without needing to trawl around tabloid newspaper sites!

Santander closed my account, am I entitled to all funds?
    RBS have closed my account
Urgent Help - Bank Account Frozen
    Barclays Account under review
    etc

Naturally most of those affected share the same (understandable) sense of indignant outrage....

  • Blimey that experience is awful. I've just moved to HSBC to get their £175 switch offer (thanks Martin), but I'll certainly make sure to keep money on another bank account too. My account has all sorts of money going in and out from various people, all legitimate and just me trying to budget successfully!

Bit if HSBC are a bit ott, they might decide it's dodgy. So long as they don't decide that directly after pay day but before I've transferred my spending money across!!

HSBC freeze my acc in Nov.  Like you i was not able to touch any money , for rent , food or anything. Not for christams or Ny. Ofcourse they didnt say why, same !!!!!! like in your case but i knew why. In my case it s because i ve deposited some cash into my acc. Still dont know how come it s posible to freeze all the money hold into acc instead of just the deposits they wanna investigate. My Source of cash is legal. Most of these cases are refered to NCA who further send them to financial crime police if they think they should be investigated. They asked documents about my money. I took a lawyer and i m providing this now. Lawyer said his last case lasted 2 years before they  unblock the money and most of these cases end up at police. Meanwhile they have no problem washing money for mexican drug cartels! This is beyond abusive and after months of waiting they will probably unfreeze my acc like nothing happened saying we are sorry. They dont give a !!!!!! about rent ,food etc or the distress they provoque.I wish them the worst posible!  Yes funny enough my acc is accepting  deposits too...they wont say No if i wish to add more money in for them to freeze. Lol. Funny how everything it s in their favour. After 3 months still waiting and cant use my own money! Abuse.S9me states find this law unconstitutional, here it s legal.

Sounds very similar to my experience. Bizarrely my bank account was 'unfrozen' 3 weeks after it had been frozen with no verbal or written explanation from HSBC (how can that be right?).
