Santander closed my account, am I entitled to all funds?

So about a week ago, I see that payments are being declined from my currents account with Santander.
I call them up and they say that the accounts been blocked because of a £2750 transaction that went into my account one year ago.
I remember the transaction. I work in the film industry and the funds were sent for me to pay for filming locations / equipment to vendors in cash. This is common practise and Santander didn't even take issue with this.
Apparently the issue is that the person who sent the money one year ago called HSBC and said that I wasn't entitled to be sent the money?
The issue I have with this is that I don't really have the adequate documentation to prove what the money was for. Text messages and whatsapps don't count. There was no contract for the initial £2.75K.
Also I wasn't dealing with the account holder personally. It was through someone else who was supposed to authorise the payment. Again, this is common practise. And it was a year ago so I'm extremely confused why this would become a problem now.
Santander are wondering whether the account owner at HSBC has now become dissatisfied with what was received??
Anyway, because of all this mess I want to take out the salary money I've received recently and move it to another bank account to start afresh.
But there's another roadblock.
Santander say most likely I can receive 'some' of my salary money for now. Their argument is that I can receive the funds from the last payment which is around £2K but I stressed to them that because I work as a freelancer and do 4-5 week projects at a time, it doesn't work like that.
I received £10k over a month in salary. £5K got spent so about £5k remains in my currents account.
ALL of that remains in there is salary. Surely, I'm entitled to all those funds?
What can I do? I don't want to deal with Santander anymore.

Is it a business account?
If the other party has said you weren’t entitled to it and you cannot prove otherwise it’s difficult for Santander to side with you.0 -

It's not a business account.
TBH, I don't care too much about the account itself.
If they want to close my account because I cannot prove otherwise then I'll hold my hands up and say I should have got the documentation at the time.
I now mainly care about the salary funds I've made in the past 2 months.
Santander said they can give me my salary money but they're debating how much to allow me access to and I'm saying that I'm entitled to it all the funds in the account as it's all salary money. The money from the transaction in question was used and gone many months ago.
Legally I'm entitled to money from salary I'm pretty sure.0 -

If you can prove that the money is yours all well and good - you will be allowed to keep it - if not then it will be returned to the 'account' it came from.
Up to you then to pursue the money through the courts.0 -

My account was down to 0 at the start of October before my salary came in. So surely all that money currently in the account is mine?
The money from that transaction a year ago technically is long gone.0 -

As long as you can PROVE the money was yours - it will be fine - if not and a claim has been made by the 'sender' - tough; they will debit your account with the amount. If you have spent it and the account was at zero they will debit back and you will owe them this sum.0 -
