When you open the HBOS 4% and receive a nominated account for interest- do you have to fund that account- it seems unclear.
Any funding requirements will be detailed in the relevant savings account T&C's. If you take the standard websaver I seem to remember it can be opened (and maintained) with as little as £1. Others may differ. Have you checked out the relevant accounts? If not, they're listed in the Reg Saver T&C's (see page 5).
Can you sneak in a bank transfer rather than a standing order...
Others have reported doing do without penalty, yes.

I seem to remember something about the websaver automatically closing after a certain length of time if you didn't fund it, which could leave your matured funds with no-where to go. Just stick a quid in.

Just phoned West Bromwich re the birthday bonus account and was told it closed on Friday.

The West Brom has reopened its Birthday Bonus account - new applicants are still only being accepted in the branch.

Leaflets were in branches last weekend and I phoned up today to check - definitely available again.

Currently paying 1% + 5% bonus if Ts&Cs are kept - have to pay in for 12 months; between £20 and £600 per month; 1 withdrawal only in the year; matures into an instant account paying 1%.

Barclays is no longer available at 6%, now its down to 4%. Went to branch today to open one, and all the literature now says 4%. Safe to say, I will not be opening one!

Ignore me... literature in branch is lying! Sounds like it goes down on Wednesday, and my local branch has been premature in putting out the flyers.

I have just opened one over the phone at 6%.

Checked it out- cannot click and view details of nominated account or access it- nor can I do a quick transfer so I presume that is due to it not requiring funding.

Are you 'new' to Halifax? If so, the account may be waiting for ID verification, meaning a branch visit may be necessary (happened to me a few years ago, and I had to show them my passport and then they ticked a box on their screen!!).

Probably best to call them. Use the callback service* and let them pay!

    Thanks for the information.

I have put a warning on the Barclays account in post 4 to let people know to apply now if they are thinking about opening this account. Thanks a lot for this - one of my relatives was going to open one up on Thursday - I shall tell them to do it today.

I have put the West Bromwich account back into post 4.
