Regular Savings Accounts: The Best Currently Available List!

Hi MSE Folks,
Here is this weekend's update:
- I have amended the entry in the feeder section for the Leeds BS account to reflect the fact that the account can only be funded for a short period of time (which most of us did not realise until we opened the account) with a link to the useful thread on this forum with more details
- There is a new regular saver from Triodos Bank paying 1.75% fixed. That is not good enough for the account to gain entry into the posts on the first page of this thread but I thought I would mention the account as many people like to bank with Triodos due to their ethical stance. There are more details on this page on their website. Actually, there is more detail on this emoneyfacts page.Has anyone tried to open the new Regular Bonus Saver in addition to their Regular Saver?
I don't know the answer to that question. If you do end up asking Scottish BS then post the answer on this thread and I shall add it to the information in my post on the first page.Is this a Regular Saver because I don't seem to be able to find the link or is it branch only?
There are some details at the top of post 4 of this thread.
I shall do another update next weekend. Have a good week everybody.

Has anyone tried to open the new Regular Bonus Saver in addition to their Regular Saver?
I opened the Regular Bonus Saver in addition to the Regular Saver, by post, shortly after the new product launched.
I recall a delay in opening the account, which was advised in writing but the reasons for which were not fully explained. However, the Bonus account was duly opened within a few weeks.0 -

The Regular Saver, ( I realise its closed issue) can monthly payments be changed or are they fixed amount as well ?, Account year I assume runs from March to March as well so its 1 withdrawal during the period say from 31 March 2009-31 March 2010.0 -

Interestingly I applied for a 4% account a month ago. If it goes up it will be sods law!0 -

If it goes up enough, it may be worth your while to close your existing one, take the interest rate hit on that, then open a new one at the higher rate.

True- the drop would be what from 4% to 0.2% on a low balance so might do that if it does rise- no doubt it will be 1% increase if anything. Pity it doesn't match the Barclays for flexibility- it is an excellent account- same it is now 4%!0 -

Any chance of getting to a West Bromwich BS branch to open their 6% birthday bonus regular saver? It's not as flexible as the Barclays one, but it does allow one withdrawal and one missed payment without penalty. That's if it's still available, of course. It's never appeared on their website.

Hi MoneySavingExperts,
Here is this weekend's update.
Actually, there is nothing much to update. The Leeds BS Online Access account was withdrawn earlier this week and has now been removed from the feeder account section of this thread. There are no new regular savings accounts and none of the ones on this list have been withdrawn.
I have removed the regular savings accounts which are paying less than 3.15% as there are 3 accounts on Martin's general savings page which pay at least this much and are widely available. I have left some accounts that pay 3.1% in post 2 that have a minimum 3% interest rate guarantee as I figure that some people will find this useful.bristolleedsfan wrote: »The Regular Saver, ( I realise its closed issue) can monthly payments be changed or are they fixed amount as well ?, Account year I assume runs from March to March as well so its 1 withdrawal during the period say from 31 March 2009-31 March 2010.
I cannot see the terms and conditions for that closed account online any more but looking back at my own notes, you can pay any amount you choose from £25 to £1,000 per month. The account year is the 12 month period ending 31st March for that account (just like the new version that replaced it) and you get the bonus interest provided you make at least 11 of the monthly payments and no more than 1 withdrawal.YorkshireBoy wrote: »Halifax launching a new regular saver on 20th July?...

I love these little tip-offs!tiptoe_mouse wrote: »If it goes up enough, it may be worth your while to close your existing one, take the interest rate hit on that, then open a new one at the higher rate.

That is what I did last year and it very much worked out to my advantage. I was able to close my existing Halifax Regular Saver and open a new 12% account at the same time over the telephone within the space of a few minutes. My existing account had only been open for about a month so the loss of interest was minimal.
See you again next weekend.

For anyone making their regular savings payments manually and optimizing payments to arrive as close to the 1st as possible:
Abbey's collection account for regular savers 09-00-00 00050005 has been enabled for Faster Payments.
This wasn't the case at the end of June when I made my payments but had the accounts been enabled to receive FPs then, my payments would have arrived too early.
It's probably best not to take the risk at all, or at least use the APACS sort code checker immediately prior to making the payment. Also, some bank accounts (HSBC, RBS) tell you beforehand whether a payment will go through by FP or BACS. Don't click, click, click the screens away too fast!Dagobert0
