This is another evidence that there are still some people working in the Banks who are Incompetent and do not know their own product. Just in this occasion alone there are already two people in the banks gave me the wrong information.
For that reason alone I do not just believe what they are telling me without checking it. further, even it is mentioned on their website.
I too manage to open Branch RS i5 last week and the adviser I was sitting with told me you could only open Branch RS in Branch.
Its very clear that you can only open the branch based RS in a branch just as its clear you can only open an eRS online just as Virgin money explicitly state on their website so what are you getting so uptight about quoting third hand gossip about opening by phone and expecting Virgin staff to make any sense of it?0 -

I think you need to read the recent posts. Adindas had an abortive visit to Virgin when they would not open the branch account as they were not aware of their own products! It was Virgin that suggested, wrongly, phone opening.
HTHDo Money Saving sites make you buy more bargains - and spend more money?0 -

It is not a thirdhand gossip; read Post #6173

The following is copied from the Virgin website:
Don't want to save online
No problem. You can also open most of our products in Store or over the phone. And the great news is, we pay the same rate of interest on your savings account however you choose to open and manage.
As well as my Post#6170. I was advised by two people at the store.0 -
I asked a virgin CS person if I could open a store RS over the phone and he said no you have to go to a store!
So I guess this account isn't one of the virgin ones that can be opened over the phone. Possibly some get confused and give wrong info but no one has reported opening the store RS account over the phone have they?
I like to keep things simple0 -

The point of this posting is the telephone opening possibility.
When I was last in a branch opening the Reg.Saver [...] [the advisor] also told me that accounts can be opened by phone.
I live 140m from the nearest Virgin store.- I phoned the store and was advised that I could open the Regular Saver over the phone via their call centre 0345 607 6991
- The call centre advisor told me that this particular product cannot be opened over the phone.
- I phoned the store again (different advisor). This person checked the T&Cs of various products: some product T&Cs stated explicitly that the product could be opened in store or over the phone. But the Regular Saver conditions lists store opening as the only option.
Has anyone actually opened the store Regular Saver over the phone?Dagobert0 -
No its a (sub)urban myth.
One day people will realise you can't open a Store Regular Saver over the phone.
Its that simple isn't it as per T&C which aren't ambiguous.0 -
Strange: my Leeds BS regular saver issue 4 is today (24/8) showing transactions for interest, bonus interest, tax and charitable donation dated 31/8/17.0

Very odd considering there are several working days between now and the 31st.0 -

I'm intrigued! What prompted you to check your account to observe that? I check my Leeds RS accounts about 24/48 hours after my monthly SO has completed and that's all.
What is the charitable donation all about, is it something we signed up for? Mine is only 13p the odd coppers over the basic interest of 0.5% so it hardly matters.0 -

There is an opt-in question on the application form.0
