Regular Savings Accounts: The Best Currently Available List!

I hadn't noticed the Saffron Regular Saver. I've got an online account with them that I haven't checked on in years (will do so this week).
Would I be better off putting an application in the post on Monday (24th)? or going into branch on Saturday 29th?
You are missing one of the market Leading RSA. They have been offering one of the best monthly saver as well as ISA regular saver.
To process by post it will normally take more than a week. So it is probably better to go in person given that the full economic cost of doing that is very tiny.0 -

I would go for the post option, or at least ring them before your visit, many new accounts can not be opened in person without an appointment, even for existing customers.0 -

Indeed it is essential to ring them in advance to arrange appointment to open the saving account.
the advantage of doing it directly in branch is that you will get your account open together with your pass book on the same day of your visit. Of course it is only justifiable if the cost of doing that permitted (tiny),0 -
Just closed my Saffron BS Regular Saver account today (12 days before maturity) and reopened a new one with £200.
details.
Date opened: 4/11/15
£200 pm paid first working day of each month.
Interest received on 24/10/2016 £43.580 -
Does anyone have any experience of how long it takes to open a Saffron BS account in branch?
I work about 10 miles from Saffron Walden, so would like to head over there in my lunch break and need to know how much parking to pay for.0 -
That's what I thought so was surprised when she said 6%. She did explicitly read out information about the product which included this stuff re getting 6% not 5% so it didn't sound like it was someone who was making an error / got confused about the details. Didn't get her name but hopefully if any issue will have a call recording or log of who I spoke to in my customer details.0

You will need to make an appointment. Takes about 15 mins assuming the person opening your account is punctual.
To save time, download and complete the application form before your visit.0 -

I can only get to the Brentwood branch on Saturday when they have no one available to open the account. They suggested I complete the application form in advance and they will process it ASAP.
It's only about a 5 mile drive to Brentwood for me and I will be taking some ID to branch anyway as I hadn't accessed my online account in so long that I locked the account trying to log in.
My girlfriend was also quite pleased at the prospect of a trip to Brentwood as she used to shop there often.0 -
"Representative example:
If you save £100 each month, you will earn £13.03 gross interest after 12 months.
The interest is calculated on the balance of the account each month, so using the example above, the first month's balance would be £100, the second month £200 etc. and therefore the amount of interest paid will increase over the year in line with the balance of the account."
Part of the T&Cs for this account. To count as a payment for a particular month, it has to reach your account by the 25th of the month by SO. The above example seems a bit vague about 'the first month's balance' in that it isn't completely clear that the interest is calculated - as is normal - from the date of deposit, or from the 25th.
Would anyone with experience of this account clarify - TIA.0 -
Hi!
I note the T&C on the web site says:
To be a Saffron Building Society member you must have held a minimum of £100 with the Society for 12 months or more in a personal savings account.
This may seema silly question, but does it have to be the last 12 months? I ask because the last time I tried to open a different account online, it claimed I existed when I have only had a passbook account in the past.Free thinker.:cool:0
