  • Hi Everybody,

    Here is this weekend's update.

I cannot see anything else that has changed in the last week.

IanIan, the Furness BS Lifestyle Saver still appears on their website where it was before: http://www.furnessbs.co.uk/saving-accounts/regular-savings/lifestyle-saver/

I will do another update next weekend.

It's fair to say though that if everybody exploited those 3%+ deals those rates would probably have been cut some time ago.

But worth remembering that the ratio of interest vs inflation has rarely been as favourable to savers as it has been over the last couple of years. And people with mortgages most likely wouldn't agree that interest rates are terrible.

I was shredding not-too-old paper statements (remember those?) this weekend, gasping at the the 4, 5, 6% rates I used to enjoy on 6-12 month bonds. Until that is I factored in the 3%+ inflation of the time, realising rates are basically as good today but with instant access.
  • IanIan, looking back, I see you were discussing a different account. I have not seen the Festive Saver account, only the account I mentioned above.

Hi SS2 - you must be getting old :D

You have the Furness Festive Saver listed under "Matures After Less Than 12 Months" and it's gone from their website.
Do Money Saving sites make you buy more bargains - and spend more money?

A 123 might suit but it is a current account, not a regular saver. Please locate the 123 etc threads
  • Yes, really prefer a saver with no messing about, best I found is 1.7 tesco 1yr fix

That's not right. Anyone who has been following the opportunities mentioned in these forums over the last few years will, if they are fortunate enough to have cash to save, and are willing to make the effort, be earning, for example, 4% in a Lloyds current account, nearly 3% in a Santander current account, 3% in a Tesco current account, 5% in a TSB current account, 4% in a Penrith Christmas Saver, perhaps 6% in a First Direct regular saver or 4% in an HSBC regular saver, and several other similar accounts.

I have looked at the Tesco current account and it pays 3% but only on the first £3000 and then zero on anything above that!

Aggypanthus, nice to see I am not alone in going for the Tesco 1 year fixed account without the messing around.

The thing is, this is a money saving site. Therefore, our efforts here are to maximise what we have. If you can't be bothered "messing around" then the sad truth is that you wont get much back on your deposit.
