Nottingham BS website says you have to open in branch.Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and you’ll get rid of him every weekend.0

Maximum £100/month though. Hardly worth the hassle.0

Nottingham BS told me on phone that a new regular saver account will be issued shortly called the Diamond Regular Saver paying 6% gross, [...]
yes its live now, branch only I thinkDagobert0 -
I'm up Notts way tomorrow so I'll pop in and see on the expectation that it won't have been withdrawn by then
Paying that rate for a relatively small amount per month indicates to me that they are not too strapped for cash but want to get folks in to push wills, insurance etc. Perhaps I'm too cynical ?0 -
Popped in branch today and opened an account. Home insurance is currently flavour of the month. Opening one this month allows £1400 to be deposited over the term.
If anyone does open an account and attempts to set up a standing order, delete the two leading zeroes from the account number (building society roll number) or the bank won't be able to set up the S.O. It was a trifle busy when I popped in the bank to set up the S.O. and the manager was "helping out" on the enquiries desk. The number of digits for the account reference completey threw him because there weren't enough boxes and he had to admit defeat. :rotfl:0 -

If you don't mind me asking, can you make the opening deposit by standing order or do you have to pay in the money by cash/cheque when you open the account0 -
Greetings Hydromancer, I don't mind you asking at all, but......I'm afraid I don't know the answer
.
I've looked through the blurb that they gave me and all it says is, "You need £100 to open the account", however it does not specify the form that this deposit must be. I suspect that it must be either cash or cheque because they may not be able to generate an account number without a deposit and you require an account number to set up a standing order to make a deposit.
You have to open it in branch anyway so could you not enquire from the horses mouth, unless of course distance to a branch is a factor ?
Sorry I could not be of more assistance.0 -

Thanks for your help! Distance to branch is a factor, although I go to Nottingham once every couple of months or so (family). I'll call them up actually.0 -
I wish to open the First Direct regular saver. However if I open it now, I'll have to pay the deposits on the 19th-21st of each month, which is not convenient as my pay comes in at the end of the month. So I'd like to wait till the end of the month before opening, but there is a danger of the product being withdrawn before then. Anyone have any idea how likely this is? I know no-one here can know for certain exactly when it will be withdrawn (or if they do, they won't be allowed to say), but are there particular times of the year where First Direct generally adds/withdraws products?0
