Even taking their own definition of "dormant", suggesting that standing order deposits don't count as deposits under that term is bizarre (that said there is nothing to stop them asking for ID for every withdrawal if they wanted as they can just hide behind the money laundering excuse, so I don't hold out much hope of success with any complaint).0 -
Edit, ignore me, you're right, it is the BS beginning with B. I closed mine 2 years ago and transferred the money to their 3% 1 year bonds.
I assumed it was the BS beginning with Y.
steady_eddie mentioned that he returned a passbook. I don't think the one beginning with B issued passbooks with their opened ended Regular saver.premierfella wrote: »Reading that thread you are making me glad that I closed my regular savings account with them a couple of years ago steady__eddie (assuming that it is indeed a building society beginning with!

Just wondering why we can't disclose the full name of the BS, rather than "B", "Y"....?0

I doubt it! I walked into my local Cheshire branch today and asked to open a Platinum account and they refused saying I had to make an appointment with an advisor to open an account. :mad:0 -
"My only reason was that steady__eddie hadn't named the society and, as a complaint is in the offing and it is not a large building society, I didn't feel it was appropriate for me to name it and make it easy for them to link these posts and the complaint together via an internet search. "
Your hammer is on target to hit the nail squarely on the head Premierfella. The intention of my original post was not to "name and shame", but merely to indicate what can happen under certain circumstances. I have a couple of other now closed issue regular savers which provide an above average rate of return which I maintain for income purposes and have never had any problem with.
I did not originally post on here because it is for the best current Regsaves but decided to post seperately and create a link for the benefit of anyone who, like myself, may have the occasional senior moment and think everything is going tickety boo until somebody switches the fan on.0 -
I contacted a couple of random Cheshire branches by phone yesterday but neither of them would budge from the "branch only" line.0
