Had to throw out our ice cube tray today. It broke in half a while back but was still useable, however, now completely cracked and beyond saving.

Did a wee tidy of the TV unit and found 5 half used hand creams and 1 foot cream so will make sure that I use them up over the next few weeks.

  • MMM - "mended" 2 existing cushions as they'd gone a bit flat so opened up 2 smaller cushion inserts and added to them. I now have 2 large and substantial cushions rather than 2 useless pancakes. With the two 2 empty insert covers, I put 2 really flat ones in one and sewed it up making one and then filled the other with scrap material and sewed up. I'm making covers for the new ones tomorrow- never done it before so wish me luck xx

Freezer is almost empty - just some bolognaise mince and pastry left so OH will have pasta tomorrow night and I'll have a veg tart. I've already washed out two of the drawers but the other will have to wait until the freezer is defrosted as it's stuck due to so much ice. Made pea soup to use up the stock I took out the freezer the other day and the rest of a bag of peas that have been in there for ages, chucked some bendy carrots into it as well.

Gathered up all the papers, opened envelopes, etc and popped them out to the recycle bin.

Hello, please may I join in? I did post at the beginning of the last thread but kind of wandered off. I'm very much into making-do and mending (in fact my little business depends on it) and we're all into minimising at the moment as we're hoping to move before too long.

I'm currently finishing up the festive leftovers before tearing into the contents of the big freezer, which I defrosted in a panic yesterday, as it had got so iced-up that it had its "super" light on all the time. I'd lost track of what was in there & was astonished to find the makings of over 20 main meals, as well as lots of home-grown, foraged or bargainaceous fruit & veg; we live close to a market, so I can often pick up fantastic bargains in that line; we're currently working our way through a £2 box of parsnips, about 30 in all, for example. Anyway:

Making do: I've just "demolished" a gigantic curtain, which came *free* from a big country house that's being redecorated, to make into a pair of curtains for our landing, a cushion cover & a small curtain to hide the cat-litter tray up there. It's the sort of fabric that you can't find out the price for; if you have to ask, you probably can't afford it! I already have a "wombled" curtain rail; the "new" curtains will be much too heavy for a plastic curtain track & hooks. It should make a very dingy corner look a whole lot better.

Mend: I just darned a hole in my leggings.

Minimise: We just minimised Christmas! Well, some of it, anyway; we're going through the boxes and getting rid of anything that's broken or really too tatty for further use. I won't reduce it right down; as the Offspring wander off into homes of their own, they tend to remove favourite items & furnishings from their bedrooms & the kitchen. Christmas decs are definitely in that zone; they hold a lot of happy memories... but I shall spend an hour or so this evening minimising the cards we received into gift tags for next year.

Make do: We have been making do with leftovers over the last few days and are using up the last of the turkey today.
Minimise: had a good sort out of my clothes and shoes and have big bags to go to the charity shop

One of my plant pots got broken today so I’ve smashed it up to put into the base of one of my other plant pots.

Using the leftover fondant icing from making my bf’s cake to make some peppermint creams.

Used a pair of bf’s old worn out trousers & the cushion inners from flattened cushions to make a draught excluder.
