    Good evening all,

I've been off the gin and cough sweets this week :rotfl: and trying to eat better. Something has worked because I've lost 2.5 lbs.

I'm starting to feel more like myself again after the cold that Christmas gave me. I'm still a bit tired during the day but I reckon that will sort itself out in the next week or so. I'm starting couch to 5k again tomorrow - it was supposed to be yesterday but an early start at work put paid to that idea.

Take care all of you :)

Well done Cranky :T. I'm glad you're feeling more yourself :) if I remember correctly gin isn't as bad as some drinks when counting SW syns I think 3 gins equalled the same as 1 large glass of red wine if drank with slimline tonic :D. Well that's what I tell myself and the slice of lemon is one of our five a day right? :rotfl:

I'm glad the health centre was able to help Blue Doggie

I've tried to be good today although I did succumb to a chocolate at work. I was late home from work and then got caught talking to my neighbour so I very nearly didn't cook and just raid the cupboard instead, so I'm glad I made myself cook something simple instead and it turned out very tasty :).

B - FF Greek yogurt and fruit - banana, nectarine and blueberries
L - gammon and rocket wrap with gherkin and sugar snap peas
D - spaghetti with a vegetable and tomato sauce (made from the odds and sods from the vegetable container)
S - grapes, orange, one chocolate

  • Well done to everyone who has lost weight. I really feel like I've been dieting the last couple of days so I'm optimistic that I'll join your ranks next week when I weigh in!

    Yesterday I ate:

B - skipped breakfast and walked the dogs instead!
L - pumpkin & coconut soup with 2 slices of bread.
D - Budha bowl with quinoa & wheatberries.

Snack - 2 muesli cookies with my coffee

I did 2 hours of dog agility last night too so I've convinced myself that I worked off the cookies :D
It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

    Afternoon All,

Sirens It goes to show how differently diets fit, I really struggled with SW. Minstrels are one of my favourite chocolates and I'm actually pretty good at managing to take a few out and put them back in the cupboard. It's also a running joke with my husband that, when I'm hormonal and in a foul mood, they can be thrown from a safe distance :D

Jackrabbit That's the problem with hiding chocolate yourself, you remember where you put it!! The dinner with your son sounds lovely and I hope that having the others back makes your food planning easier

Blue Doggy I'm glad that the health centre were helpful and I hope the sponsorship goes well. Have you decided what charity you're doing it for?

Procrastinator I'm glad you had a good day, and lots of walking, on your London visit. Because I work here I'm rubbish at ever looking around the many things there are to do, I tend to want to get out as quickly as possible :D

Cranky I'm glad you're starting to feel better and well done on the loss. Best of luck with C25K

Brambling Well done for bothering to cook after getting home late, I find it really hard not to reach for something instant at times like that. I love pasta sauce made from bits that need using up, it's just gutting when you get one that's absolutely gorgeous and you have no idea what you'd thrown in.

Miss Behaving I'm sure the dog walking and agility will have cancelled out the cookies so best of luck for next week's weigh in.

    Today's food:
B - skinny latte from Nero
L - carrot, cucumber, Quorn cocktail sausages and red pepper dip
    D - home-made veg curry and rice

I don't know if other people struggle with weekends as well but I find it really hard to decide what to eat and when as there's so much more to choose from and less structure to the day. I'm also far more likely to have things going on which involve alcohol (I seem to have a rather boozy set of mates) and/or food.

I'm sure I remember someone saying that they stick to vodka rather than gin when dieting, is that because of the drink itself or a difference in what mixer you prefer with them?

We've got a friend's birthday party tomorrow and I'm trying to decide what to take, I'd normally have beer or wine but figure that spirits will be much lower in calories. I then just need to avoid the drunken/hungover munchies as alcohol seems to obliterate what little willpower I have.

Have a lovely weekend everyone xx

    I have
Stayed the same, this week and I am claiming it as a triumph, all things considered.:D

Years ago, when WW first brought out their points system in the UK, it was much more relaxed and simple than it is now - and they actively discouraged you from weighing food; they tried to get you to work out what a portion size looked like in relation to your hand, for example.
I remember the book stating that you shouldn’t get too hung up on possibly having a slightly bigger portion of something, because over the course of a week, it was bound to balance itself out by you underestimating something else.
It was the most relaxed I’ve felt on a diet, and I lost 2 stones.
I find both SW and WW in their current forms unnecessarily complicated, and that having to think about what to eat to fit the plan, has me thinking about food for too much of the day.
Also, with SW, I might really fancy, say, a slice of buttered toast, but if I’ve had my healthy extras and syns I can’t have that. So I’ll then fill up with “free” food instead, which, unless it’s a plate of veg, very often ends up being more calorific than the toast I’d denied myself :D
I’m not knocking the plans; I know someone who has lost weight on SW, kept it off, and looks great.
It just doesn’t fit my mindset, which is a bit rubbish when it comes to food if I’m honest.
I feel like I’ve been on and off diets most of my life, and I need to find a different approach!
Sorry - that turned into an essay! :D

I think all plans work, but you have to throw yourself into doing it exactly even when it is stupid. And some of the rules are very very stupid!
I find it intensely irritating to go along with things that dont make sense, unfortunately, so I am loosely following the defunct WW no count/simply filling/simple start method of eating just wholegrains, all vegetables, fruit, meat , pulses, limiting fats and sugar, and allowing for a small amount of junk once or twice a week. This also fits in with slimming world, if only they allowed you to save your "syns" for a few days. (and they can b*gger off with calling food a sin too!)

I have no doubt though that if I stuck to either, or any, plan exactly, I would have lost all the porkiness by now.
My hope is that by doing it gradually, and more realistically, that I will stick to it permanently and become one of the two percent of dieters that keep the weight off. :)

Sorry, it sounds a bit ranty. :o It wasnt meant to be.

    Yesterdays food...

Cheesecake and cherries (this was not a healthy wholegrain limited fat item! :D)

    Sausages, mash, sprouts, cabbage, gravy.

    Today..

Duck egg on seedy toast x2. 3 pears.

Later, beef curry, brown rice, mango chutney, salad.

Possibly porridge if I am hungry later.

    Good evening everyone :)

Procrastinator your London visit sounds fun, and lots of useful free built-in exercise equipment (steps) :)

CRANKY40 well done on your loss . :j Glad you’re starting to feel better, and good luck with the C25K.

Brambling I never understand why wine doesn’t count in the 5 a day - it’s only (fermented) fruit juice, after all :p . Well done on cooking when you got home even though you were tired. :)

Miss Behaving good for you on canine activities as exercise aids.

Izadora I’m supporting a friend’s severely disabled two-year-old great nephew: she and all his family are saving to get him treatment which is currently only available in Poland and California (they are supported by his consultant at GOSH).

I find that meal planning helps me cope with weekends. The dogs like regular meals so I usually have mine when I’ve fed them. Of a morning I just look at the plan for the day, take anything needed out of the freezer, and it’s all organised for me (there is some flexibility but the bones are there).

When I’m having alcohol with friends I’ve taken to having a white wine spritzer with lots of ice - it makes a longer drink and dilutes the alcohol. I used to do similar with gin, lots of ice and tonic, but as you say booze stimulates the appetite, and usually for the wrong things. :(

Honeythewitch cheesecake and cherries may not be HWLF but it sounds yummy! :D Well done on STS in spite of everything. :)

Today’s planned (and achieved) munches were:
B: fish fingers with fennel and tomato
L: lentils in tomato sauce with rice, tangerine
D steamed hake with peas and carrots, cinnamon yogurt
    S: 2 squares of 85% chocolate

    Wishing everyone a good weekend!

Well done on the loss Gingerlily :T I hope you're feeling better, it's not easy trying to eat healthily when you're not feeling well.

I walked into town and back this morning for a hair appointment, it was cold but lovely not to be raining and I needed to try and walk off a headache its a couple of miles each way. I prefer it cold and dry any day to the mild but very wet weather we have been having. I've slightly unwillingly agreed to work this afternoon I'm just waiting for IT to finish their maintenance to our servers and then a couple of us need to test the systems are still working as they should. I'm at home so not that bad as long as it finish on time at 6pm and not go on to midnight as it has previously

Food wise today has been a bit bitty but other than tasting a bite of sausage and half a falafel in the farmers market I haven't been too bad so far. I was tempted with the falafel wrap from the Syrian food stall in the market as the they were very good probably helped as they were frying them but I walked away :p

    B - Banana
L - Cheese and apple - as it was nearly 2pm when I got home
D - if work finishes by 6pm it will be a vension burger (no bun) from the farmers market with air fried chips and veg of some kind
S - half a falafel and a bite of sausage
