Which of you sock knitting peeps are going to live in Sockety Cottage (there is a farm with that name where I used to live in Dorset). The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)5

That’s a brilliant name.

Does the half-timbered pub have a name? 'The Make-Do and Lend' springs to mind...
The parish newsletter has to be called "The Goode Life" and edited by Tom and Barbara.
- PipI don't know, I turn my back for a day or two and a housing estate springs up! roflI love the name, Little Mending - and the parish newsletter's inspired. Do I assume the village is part of a cluster? Nether Mending, Middle Mending and Much Mending on the Rise?I'm taking it as read that there's a haberdashery? Perhaps run by a Miss Trim?Ooh! Is the dog's name not Patch? lol
Yes! That’s perfect @basketcase. I like the idea of a cluster of villages. I suspect that Much Mending on the Rise scored the railway station (or at least claimed it, even if it is closer to Little Mending). They’re posh snobby up there. (It’s beginning to feel like we’ve stepped into Mapp And Lucia. Miss Mapp must live in Much Mending.)
Yes, of course, there is a haberdashery run by Miss Trim. Plus we get a visiting fabric and yarn stall on market day, along with the chap who sells Kilner jars and Le Parfait jars for bottling (canning) our supplies.
Patch the dog? He’ll have to be a terrier foxhound cross. Terrier for the non-shedding fur; foxhound for the patches and size.

I'm starting to wonder about setting up a forum, with discussion threads for each of the villages (*sigh* and the endless pressure from Much Mending on the Rise for their thread to be top of the list, instead of further down in alphabetical order as it is now and always has been and none of the other villages mind).
I do know I read in the local newspaper.... oh, what's it called now? - anyway, I remember reading about the superb Village Scarecrow competition they had.
Patch the dog? ok, but suggestions welcomed for how to stop my brain always hearing it as an instruction....2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

.
2025 needlework- *Reverse-couponing*:11 coupons :

You can always call the dog "Scruffy". I'm sure he'll answer to it. (He'd probably answer to "Hey you!" if it was accompanied by a treat and a pat.)
My brain is already working out how to introduce next year's Fashion on the Ration Challenge: "Welcome to the Fashion on The Ration Challenge and the village of Little Mending on the Borrow. The year is 1942 and the ladies of the village are meeting in the village hall to discuss their plans for the year..."
Laura, you'll have to draw us a map of the village.
- Pip
ETA: I changed the year to 1942. It makes more sense, since we're running on calendar years not the anniversary of when clothing rations were first introduced."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'

Laura, you'll have to draw us a map of the village.
- PipI love the idea of a Mendings Forum. Will there be a village(s) fete next year? Presumably it's been cancelled this year due to Covid.I don't know about the rest of the Mendings, Pip, but Much Mending always hemmed and hawed about their place in the old Mendings Guide. Didn't they create a huge furore that year Nether's School Nurse (you know, Knitty Nora) won the Most Decorative Socks Made from Rewound Yarn competition? Perhaps they'll behave better if their antics are reported in the Goode Life...

I can see a series of books arising from this idea.
I haven't been doing a lot of crafting lately but I have spent a lot of time upcycling an old dolls house which I have turned into a home (a dream home for me as I will never be able to afford one) above a crafting/dressmaking shop with a classroom space (for the knit and stitch groups and crafting workshops) and a sewing room (for making or adjusting garments for its clientele) as well as a well stocked shop. I can just see it nestled in this little village of Little Mending on the Borrow.

Hanging out at my parents' house.
The 16-year-old is playing with the RingFit. Apparently it's growing on him, even though it's definitely hokey.
I believe the plan is the rest of the family is going to go play disc golf while I run into the grocery store for a few things (hard to make sandwiches when you forget the bread!).2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.7
