I’m in awe of your stripe matching Laura, that back seam certainly makes you go cross-eyed! Also love the ring and hope all goes well next week.
I like Little Mending on the Borrow and think it fits us perfectly! I’m already imagining putting on my hat and going to the village hall for WI meetings and jam making.....,
Stash busting challenge 2025: 0/100 £0/£100 Fashion on the ration 2025: 0/665 -
Greetings, fellow villagers of Little Mending on the Borrow.
@Laura_Elsewhere, your stripes are awesome as well as beautiful, and thanks to both you and @PipneyJane for tee shirt advice. I am absolutely with you regarding most tee shirt mends: I've had one or two tee shirts develop lumps where the tiny hole appeared in an obvious place and got mended, so I know (and - ahem - I have a few garments with mending embroidery already) and I do like the way of drawing together that you've described, which might actually work on the current tiny hole (hidden among stripes so more forgiving).
Why do the holes tend to appear on the front and in the middle?
I've used unravelled overlocker thread to hem shortened long sleeves on tees, IYSWIM. It worked well apart from the hassle of unravelling the threads. I had a bleach mark on a cuff so the sleeves were reduced to three quarter length. Our ancestors knew a thing or two when they introduced that length, it has everything going for it and I later did the same for an undamaged long sleeved tee.
Do we get to name our cottages in Little Mending, too?
I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I’ve been remiss in replying as I’ve been at a staff retreat the last few days. It was lovely to stay some place not my home (and yes, we took lots of precautions) for a few days. Tons and tons of planning and concentration, so I was wiped when we were done yesterday.
Today we’re heading out to my parents’ house - taking our camper (I think y’all would call it a caravan) to stay in. They live down by a river where there are trees (by contrast, we live in a desert - haven’t even had an inch of rain in the last month...maybe 3!) and have a pool and hot tub, so while it’s not the beach as we’d originally planned, we can at least get in the water in multiple ways!
As for the yarn - I picked up a lovely dark blue green and a brown woolen 4-ply worsted weight yarn, each 100g, that Laura tells me is probably twice as thick as I should have been getting, but I live where it’s 105F on a regular basis in the summer and only freezes a few times a year, so unless I make it into a proper yarn shop, I have very limited options. The blue green was actually the ONLY color that wasn’t brown, gray, or black, and it was on clearance! I’m actually wondering if I should get more of the brown and attempt to make taller socks, as I very rarely wear tennies (trainers) and will most likely end up wearing them with my cowboy boots.
Oh, and Laura? I’ve refused to sew with stripes for years, because I know it’ll drive me batty if they don’t line up correctly.2023 Fashion on the Ration: Start with 66. Nightdress - 6 = 60 remaining.6 -

Regarding the sock yarn, worsted-weight is thick. Sock yarn is usually fingering weight (a.k.a. "4-ply" to the Brits and Aussies), whereas in Australia worsted-weight is called "10 ply". If you are brave enough to try mail-order, I'd suggest Knitpicks Stroll or Lionbrand Sock Ease (also often sold in Jo-Annes and other big box stores) or any of the sock yarns sold by Webbs. The socks I've made with Sock Ease are soft and very hardwearing. (It's been nearly 4 years and they get worn virtually every weekend.) I've never successfully made knee length socks that will stay up without sticking a band of elastic under the turned-down cuff. Most of my socks have a 5 inch leg, which works well in boots (68 rounds on a US size 1 needle (2.5mm)).

- PipI don't know, I turn my back for a day or two and a housing estate springs up! roflI love the name, Little Mending - and the parish newsletter's inspired. Do I assume the village is part of a cluster? Nether Mending, Middle Mending and Much Mending on the Rise?I'm taking it as read that there's a haberdashery? Perhaps run by a Miss Trim?Ooh! Is the dog's name not Patch? lolA budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!
