Crazy Cat Lady Chapter 4 - The Aftermath

Good afternoon!
Thanks for your kind words - I feel very lazy. Especially when I read what wonders everyone else is getting up to - it never feels like much when I'm doing it. I'm having another day of doing not much today - woke up at half six with a fuzzy head and haven't quite gotten going again. I have dishes in the sink waiting to be washed, and I have submitted and put the dryer on because it keeps randomly raining so I don't fancy my chances outside.
My mam and stepdad turned up this morning at 9am sharp for him to destroy cut up the old bathroom door. Oh. My. GOD! I really want a big electric saw now. Not that I have anything to cut up but I would find something if I owned one of those things. I think it took him longer to plug it in than to cut the door up and it was SO loud and SO quick, and I want a circular saw. So f0xh0les - that will go on my list of things that I need for the houseMy mam was most impressed with my new bathroom, and it's saying something if it meets her approval.
After that I had a 90 minute training session online. Peer to peer coaching - which is where we are going in terms of development next year. I really wish that they would consider the variable that is people when they're doing this stuff. It only works if people buy in, and people won't buy in if they're forced into it. And if you asked someone like me to list all their strengths and weaknesses then you'd be on a long time reading through my weakness list while I sat and tried to think of something that I was good at. No good for someone with mental health issues at all. And it was quite boring as well. I think it could have been said in 20 minutes.
Then the kitchen/bathroom people rang me again and tried to nag me into a kitchen again. I have told them if they ask again then I will make sure when I need a kitchen that I don't buy it from them and they can wait until I'm ready to ask or I will go elsewhere. I hope that works.
Then I decided that I would use my 25% Oober Eats discount for a $ubway lunch for me and the kids. I know we had food yesterday but tough. I wanted healthy salady stuff today without having to leave the house and get any. I have just chomped a very tasty steak and cheese salad so in my book it was worth it. Especially as I've done the monthly budget and have included that in it
DD seems brighter today. She has been wanting to decorate her bedroom for ages - and there is paint etc but she hasn't gotten going with that - and me being the mother that I am I have refused to help her do it... I will put masking tape down etc but I am not going to be rolling. It will be a nice project when she's motivated - because there's no way she'll want to get involved with something like crochet. It was my mam and granny that got me into crochet really Jan - more knitting though. I was very young when they taught me that but I could never really get the hang of crochet as a young un. I picked up knitting again when I started posting on MSE as I hadn't done it for years but liked the idea of home made pressies, and then I decided to try crochet again and I discovered that it's actually much quicker and easier than knitting so that's where I'm comfy now. My mam still prefers knitting but I don't have the patience for it really - it feels like a lot of work for a tiny thing (like a sock) whereas I can do massive blankets and wraps in the same time if I crochet. DD is not keen on learning to knit or crochet at the moment. She is an almost 16 year old, gorgeous and conscientious but only really preoccupied with school stuff, makeup and fashion, and talking to her friends. But more important than that she's most preoccupied with fitting in - so wants to be the same as every other teenager in the world. So not cool to crochet or knit. Not giving up

@crazy_cat_lady would you be able to help your daughter help herself by encouraging her/helping her working out which order to do the jobs to get her room decorated. If she is a perfectionist she may be frozen for fear of getting it wrong. Jobs like washing down, masking areas, cleaning equipment, how to apply paint to different surfaces, different types of paints for various surfaces.
Does she have any plans to change the layout? What about finishing touches like pictures/cushions?
I was wondering if trying to engage her in discussing the finished product might motivate her to get started.
My dd loves DIY, she has been filling in cracks and holes in the spare room - we are at the early stages of decorating, not that she has just got out the poly fillerFashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

I have been trying to teach myself crochet. I got a book, hook and wool from my secret santa, but rarely have time to sit and learn. Would love to be able to make gifts for people. I bet your bathroom is so relaxing nowMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Can I borrow your saw when you get one CCL? There is one in Herr Aldee this week on special buy, and I was like, Oooh, pretty thing! come to me!! I need one of those in my life ..... and DH was like -erm, you are actually scarily dangerous with a spoon, if you buy that I will wonder if you are planning on cutting me up, and hiding my chunks in the freezer. I will never be able to sleep again (for some reason he thinks I am a dangerous person). I love the noise of them. whhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Love your response to the bathroom/kitchen people 😉 did they think you were just going to change your mind in 48 hours 🤷🏻♀️9

I used to hate that 'strengths and weaknesses' stuff too CCL. You are however a strong and motivational person.Maybe DD would like to look at ideas for decor on Pinterest or somewhere like that? Maybe she isn't sure what kind of look she would like to aim for, before the washing down, filling, painting stages?9

Nothing like spending MANY hours creating a mood board / vision board for a project... collect loads of samples and pin them on a board or stick to a piece of A3 paper. I love this part of planning... just a shame I don't particularly like decorating!

@natsplatnat that is the sort of thing I meant - but you put it so much better. I am probably the least designer / arty type person in the universe9
