Floss said:The development has been very quick because the work on carriers had already been done (taking 6-8 weeks for the RNA vaccines) and the regulators have now approved them after the ethically based consensual trials. The speed is mainly because there has been no need to apply for grant funding or wait for lab space or trial time as everything has been fully funded & accommodated.
Thanks Floss, I suspected as much. Like the government, I ‘follow the science’. 😉 There’s a virologist, Chris Smith, who often broadcasts on radio with some very accessible explanations. Similarly, when the NHS and Public Health guys are in the government briefings it’s obvious that they don’t necessarily agree with the policy that’s been made based on the advice they’ve given. They’re frequently adding their own health warnings especially on the coming Christmas ‘free for all’. Probably the most memorable was when Jonathan Van Tam said the ‘Rules Apply to All’ during the Dominic Cummings fiasco and was promptly banned for months. Of course it may just have been a coincidence.🤔
That's good news that your husband plans to be vegan too Wednesday. There will be many benefits but also make life easier when it comes to shopping and cooking. I'm not a vegan myself or even veggie but, managed carefully, I know it's a healthy way of eating. I think that's something we all need to be aware of to boost our immunity and generally look after ourselves at the moment. There are a few positives coming from Covid and that's one. I also think that the mask wearing and sanitising is helping to keep other ailments like flu at bay.
I've had a good pamper session today so all creamed and coiffed. I've made a hair appointment for Monday so I'm looking after myself in as many ways as I can. I hope we all are. 😁

Thank you Floss, I have been following the development of the vaccines with particular interest as I have a Primary Immune Deficiency (PID), my body does not produce antibodies, I benefit from the antibodies in my replacement infusions, as such I will be advised by my Prof when a suitable vaccine is available for me, likely to be one that will give the best cellular response I think, although some patients have been advised to take the one currently being offered in the meantime as it may provide a teeny bit of antibody response,- I hope that my fogged brain has remembered this correctly

floss- it was very informative. What you said fits with what I have seen for years that the grant applications and searching for money for research pull people away from research. I remember some of the professors telling stories about the faff involved. I knew that was not for me as I can barely write a text never mind a grant proposal and so never worked in research.
I have often said the empire state building was built in 13 months- it is amazing what can be done when people are working for a common purpose and loads of cash is available. it does make me think what other conditions could be cured if copious amounts of money were available instead of the military-industrial complex, especially in America. That is another story for another day.

As Calum told us (and backed up by conversations with clinical & pharma colleagues) a lot of the donkey work had already been done on the "carrier" elements, and one of those is used regularly at my hospital employer for some cancer treatments.

Hello Ladies,
It is with the utmost regret and terrible heartbreak that I have to say that my eldest granddaughter aged 19 has died. The tragedy is that she took her own life.
We had a few days of her on life support, where we all prayed, but in the end my daughter and my granddaughter's Father were told that she was brain dead and they had to allow the life support machines to be turned off. Even when I went to say goodbye to my beautiful granddaughter it was hard to comprehend that I would never see her again until the day of her funeral.6 -
