It's scary in the US. DH's cousin's wife used to commute for miles to a fairly low paid job. In ignorance, I once asked why as she wasn't getting any younger and she said that it was worth it because as a public service job it came with health insurance. Obama did try to sort it with Obamacare but I think Trump has done his best to dismantle it. ☹️6

My friend is 70 and up until last year she was living in California. She's a Brit.....both her daughters married Americans so she lived there for a while. She is very healthy and takes absolutely no medication, something that the Americans found unbelievable. One nurse called her a liar....saying "I don't believe you, everyone is on prescribed medication, especially seniors like you".Despite her clean bill of health and robust constitution (She walks around 7 miles a day, swims, plays tennis and as a young woman had a Black belt at judo, just looking at her you can tell she is very athletic) her medical insurance was 740 US dollars per month on what they call a co pay agreement. My friend had to pay 1/3 of any costs.Their system Is totally out of control.6

Glad you are now recovered Mrs P and that your op was so successful. Apparently the surgeon is very good (well he ought to be). He did a minimally invasive procedure. Not keyhole exactly but apparently they don't have to cut through any muscle so it has a much better outcome, is less painful and the recovery time is much shorter.I don't think it's available in the UK yet, at least not on the NHS but it's on its way.7

i hope i'm in the right place, just signed up and here we are, i know i'm a bit late but i'm hoping to do something with the last quarter
i'm about 20lbs heavier than i'd like to be, i've lost about 10lbs already after exams finished
i've forgotten how to work out, lost my core muscles, can't wear half of my clothes in my closet, it just needs to be sorted out and i need to get back to fab
i'm going to try to take this as easy as possible to keep it as low pressure as possible
plans:- i'm walking back and forth to work, on my feet a lot during the day too
- fitbit is on - so i'll see how i do this week and set goals afterwards
- big breakfast with oats, seeds/nuts, 2 eggs and quark
- making sure i keep on my water
- lunch - small meal + this fiber/energy oat granola bar i make myself
- got new hair tongs - will be getting into the practise of setting my hair etc
big challenge = not eating at night, i have an issue with binging at night and i'm going to be focusing on that more than anything else above.
after that - once lockdown lighten a bit i'm hoping to get back into ballet, haven't done it since i was a kid but i don't like yoga cause so much of it is horizontal and ballet now looks like vertical yoga :P

Welcome fellowhuman-
I am on a similar journey trying to lose weight, eating well, and keeping active.
I occasionally use an intermittent fasting app. I set it on after I finish eating and it motivates me to stay away from the fridge. That being said I had some skyr and blueberries compote and 4 almonds at 11 pm.

Hello Ladies,
Welcome Fellow Human
I had a really enjoyable weekend. The sun was shining here in South London, but there was also enough of a breeze to keep us all from feeling too hot.
My older daughter and her husband had already made plans to come to North London and stay in a hotel for 2 nights so that they could celebrate her son's 21st birthday.I then loaned them enough money to pay for another night in the Travelodge in Brixton so that they could stay for my great niece's 10th birthday party.
I had not seen some of my nieces, great nieces and other family members for months, so even though I do get a bit anxious about Covid-19, I really could not restrain myself from hugging all of my family as they arrived for the party. We sat chatting and enjoying sitting on our chairs in the enclosed grassed area. There was a bouncy castle and a bubble machine which all of the young children really enjoyed.
There was a DJ with a great sound system and there was a gazebo with food and drinks tables with disposable cutlery, serviettes, crisps, sweets, cupcakes, M & S sandwich platters, mini quiches, cocktail sausage rolls. There was a candy floss machine and a popcorn machine. There was also a barbecue for burgers, sausages and plenty of jerk chicken. Later in the evening, there was the birthday cake, a Caribbean fruit cake and a huge homemade lemon drizzle cake and stewed chicken, plain rice, rice & peas, macaroni cheese and coleslaw for everyone to enjoy eating with plenty of soft drinks, bottled water and alcohol of various descriptions for all of the adults to enjoy.
When the Dj started to play some of my favourite reggae tunes, I got up and danced even though the grassed area of bumpy hard packed earth was not an ideal dancing surface. I had not danced for months, so I could not resist getting up to dance.
I had to leave the party early as I had quite severe oedema in both of my legs and feet which was making me uncomfortable and causing me pain but I went home a happy woman.
I had a very relaxing Sunday. I literally had my feet up all day, as my legs and feet needed to be elevated to get rid of the oedema, so that by the time I was going to bed my legs and feet were finally back to normal.6 -
Hello Lovely Ladies....Hello Fellow Human.....welcome to our merry gang. And you're never too late........it's never too Late to make a fresh start. 😂. Let Covid do its worst, We are all looking forward to being Christmas Crackers. 💃🥂
SUgarbaby your party sounds fantastic, even if you had to rest next day, I bet it was all worth it, to spend time with all your family. And you even had the weather on your side.Have been to chiro this Morning, then whizzed round Aldi and stocked up lots of fruit and veg. I'm managing to eat around 8 to10 portions of fruit and veg a day. It's the right time of of year, There is lovely fresh produce In the shops At the moment. Might be more of a challenge come the winter.Making great progress at chiro.....I can really feel the difference now....a lot less pain and stiffness. I can start working on my muscles now, just start with some simple yoga type stretches and some physio exercises.A bit tired now so just taking it easy. Might need to have a nap.........8 -
fellow human welcome to the thread and good luck with your goals.
sugar the family party sounds like fun and a great opportunity for a family catch up, after such a long time.
I had an errand to run in Central London this morning. Covent Garden was like a ghost town. It got me thinking about the affects on the economy as Covent Garden is normally heaving with tourists and shoppers. I also popped to my local town centre and that was really really busy.
Lots of people seem to be taking advantage of the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme today. We certainly will be taking advantage of it this month.6 -
I can't decide about the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme, I would if we were younger/husband was well but I'm not sure it is worth the risk for us. I must see if a local restaurant with outside seating is doing it, I think I'd be happier with that. I'd love a meal out and hope you enjoy yours Chanie.
I'm a bit addicted to the squashed peaches at the moment, the ones I've had lately have been lovely and sweet and juicy. I generally eat quite a lot of veg, I'm not a vegetarian but I don't think I'd bother much with meat if I wasn't cooking it for DH.
I was sad to hear about John Hume's death, an amazing brave man who achieved so much and even sadder to think he didn't even remember what he'd done due to dementia. So cruel.
I've had an incredibly lazy day. I must do better tomorrow.6 -
Hi Fellowhuman, sounds like a good plan. I like the ballet being vertical yoga, made me smile.5
