ElmoR said:Not sure there are paper deeds any more? I was waiting for mine but when you contact the land registry online now, they simply change the ownership to yourself and remove the bank. That might be because our house is a 1990s vintage though. It was such an anti-climax that I paid £3 or so for a receipt/notification of the change. I wanted something to look at.Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

We have the deeds to my family house and they are beautiful. The thing is made out of thick fancy paper, with like metallic bits to the writing. This is once from the very late 1800s, would love to know what yours look like.4

Mine will probably look like these, which I found a few years ago in an envelope tucked away in a corner 🤣!

I’m pretty sure it costs no more to pay TV licence monthly - we do and we certainly wouldn’t if it cost more!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

The TV lincence doesn't cost more monthly but your payments are always 6 months ahead. When you start paying monthly the 1st 6 payments are double (so you pay for a year's licence over 6 months) then go down to the monthly amount.
Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Ahh, yes, I remember now. It was very upsetting to start paying for it again only 6 months after I'd shelled out for an annual one 😥!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Glad to hear there's no cost difference with the TV licence!
We had the deeds for our old house when we paid the mortgage off, they were brilliant 😁 They were from 1890, and it was a 900 year lease (50p a year 😂 ) and we were specifically forbidden to set up either a tannery or a steam hammer in the garden 😂 (bear in mind this was a terrace with less than 100sq foot of front garden, and no back garden) 😂 Wish we'd kept them rather than handing them over - I stupidly didn't even take a picture!4
