Census done, how terribly boring. Apparently I only like filling in surveys where there is a financial reward (although my survey exploits did at least mean I could auto-fill some of the answers) 🤣! It also took me about 3 screens to confirm that yes, there really is only one person living here 🙄 I'm sure between HMRC/DVLA/the Passport Office/the NHS/council tax they already had the answers to all the compulsory questions anyway - apart from what qualifications I've got, which not even any employer has ever asked for 🤦♀️!
Onwards with my day of dull life admin....the reward being brand-new Midsomer Murders at 8.00pm!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Whoops, I was so busy moaning I forgot to report my other big excitement of the day! I did an Olio pick-up this morning of 5 bananas and 6 eggs - exactly the quantities I had written on my shopping list, so very exciting to cross those off 😀 The bananas were a bit spotty, but I've put them in the freezer as they're only going in milkshakes anyway. I was very tempted by some bags of kale (😋) somewhere else, but I already had 6 stops to make on my list of errands between mine and BF's and I just couldn't face another. Anyway, the real news is that all of the little Tesco branches we have dotted about (loads of them, as we don't have a big one!) seem to be getting food heroes, so hopefully there could be more around going forward.
(P.S. I've not mentioned Olio to BF, as he just won't get it and will see it as me scrounging/taking food from people who are more in need, so we'll keep it as our secret 🤐)Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

It's OK, I'm sure we can all keep a secret
. I'm really impressed with Olio, in my area there is so much going. I have registered as a volunteer but there is no collections available at the moment. It makes me feel good that the food is not going to be thrown away.
Thanks for the heads up on the Midsummer Murders, that's my evening sorted. Maybe with my bottle of Olio Diet CokeWithout overpayments: 15 years, 1 monthsBecause of overpayments: 10 years, 10 months left until paid off3 -
I'm possibly as far from the sea as you can get. I try to go when on holiday though, the sea air makes my hair curlier than usual which I think is all the reason I need.
Honestly, I'm not sure I get Olio. But I haven't looked into it.. Which might be why!4 -
You should, KP! It's basically things being given away for free (there's stuff for sale too, but you can buy stuff anywhere 🤣!) There is food stuff and non-food stuff (anything goes really on the non-food). On the food side there are things individual people are giving away that they don't want any more, maybe they don't like the taste etc, and there are things which supermarkets have been unable to sell and give away to "food heroes" who go to collect it all from the supermarket and then distribute it to whoever requests it and they come and collect it from their home. The idea is that it stops waste and things going to landfill, when really they just need redistributing.
I've had two little food pick-ups now and I've got some non-food bits to list if I ever get round to photographing it (items decluttered in January last year and STILL on my lounge floor, so I'm sure it'll happen at some point 😳!) Lots of people on here do really well on it, so if you're somewhere built-up then have a look!

I've signed up for Olio but somehow can't bring myself to actually request stuff from people 😂 Will hopefully get up the courage to get something at the weekend (there's always someone picking up the bakery stuff from Tesco on a Saturday morning!). You also kicked me into checking my state pension forecast and apparently I'm on track for the full amount in 34 years time if I continue paying NI contributions like I have been. I do have 3 years of part contributions that I could make contributions for but a) it's over £1000 and b) looks like I don't really need to pay the extra anyway 🤷♀️Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20174

I keep nagging my Mum to get a forecast but I bet she hasn't yet. As her entire retirement strategy is to "throw herself on the mercy of the state", I think she needs to know what she will get! (No provision elsewhere, probably a LOT of years missing 😮) You can take a horse to water..... At least people on here listen to me 🤣!
I know what you mean about requesting things, it definitely kicks in my inner (and well-hidden) shyness 😳 But I figured if I can disclose the intricacies of my financial situation to strangers on the internet, I can probably ask someone for something they're actively trying to give away!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
