I'm 18 and I got my first car, a 54 plate Fiat Punto 1.2, and insured it with Tesco. I am the only driver and have NCB etc, and found that they were the cheapest around by miles at £950! (Including legal protection and replacement car). Took Pass Plus too, informed Tesco of this and got a rebate of £100! I would say from my experience they are very helpful.
All I can say is hunt high and low for whats best for you, its worth it in the end.0 -

TBH, I don't think the insurance company will care who they get the money from, as long as they get the money!braken2000 wrote:Looks a bit worrying however as i have had to pay it on my mums card and they might get fussy cos its not in my name, any help on this matter?

My mum paid for my insurance on her card. Even though the pass plus was in my name, and the policy, so it doesnt matter if the bill wasn't paid for by yourself. :j0

NOOOOOOO!!!! DONT GET A CORSA!!! I'm sure you'll see soon that there's a design fault with the gearbox and clutch system. had to have mine replaced at cost of 60 pounds! This sin't me assuming it's a design fault, the vauxhall mechanic told me.gemma1585 wrote:I'm a student and I currently have a corsa.
They're great little cars, I have a 52 plate 1.2 16V CLUB. Its very reliable, doesn't use an awful lot of petrol, cheap to insure (1st year insurance, 18 years old, no ncb, £600, this was with diamond and I WOULD NOT recommend them, now with tesco) and relatively cheap to buy.
I love my little car!!!0 -
dont bother goin with sainsburys with pass plus. They dont knock anything off for it. TBH they did not even know what it was.0

ryt im a student 19. currently sharing a car with my sister...
i was wondering how you lot in general get the money for your car. i mean insurance alone is a grand if not more. a decent runner is about 500- 1000. i mean i work part time have been since i was 17. 8 hours a week. n i dont waste it...0 -
I got my car as my 18th birthday present from all my family (it was my dads but I kept pinching it after I passed so he gave in and let me have it). Plus I gave him 2000 pounds from a trust find they set up for me when I was born. Its a S reg corsa and I love my little car

Im on my dads insurance with Direct line meaning Im still getting no claims bonus as a named driver and only paying 170 pounds a year. MOT with service is normally about 200 pounds (which is yearly) and tax is 150 - 180 (I think...)
I spend 30 - 40 pounds a month on petrol and this gets me to and frmo my boyfriends, to work and to the park and ride for uni. I find my wages covered this when I didnt get grants but now find my student grant / loan helps ALOT.Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
Best bet when looking for a car is
go onto parkers and search for cars by insurance group (group 1 is cheapest)
pick any cars you like the sound of and then visit Honest john and look for the review/write up on that car, it tells of recalls, annoying faults, what its like to drive and maintain.
Find a rough price you want to pay
get looking
other insurance companies are bell (part of admiral) who insured by B/f on a golf gti for £600 with 0 NCB
and eCarinsurance who insured me on a Fiat Seciento sporting with bodykit and modifications all declared with my b/f on the policy TPFT for £200. Fiat seicentos are very cheap to buy, run, tax and insure!
I bought my 1999 Fiat Seicento sporting with 38K, FSH, 2 years ago in VGC and paid only £1300 for it.:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea
