I tried adding my parents in, it either made no difference whatsoever or made the quote something like £20 more expensive.

(parents have been driving for years, clean licence, no claims etc).

Please bear in mind that your location (post code) makes a big difference on the insurance premium!

beside i would recommend http://www.parkers.co.uk/insurance/?frommenu=true to compare insurance groups between cars!

i hope this is somewhat helpful to you guys!

oh, by the way i am 23 with 2 yrs NCB on Nissan Primera 2 liter cost £900 with norwich union direct, as if i could remember then ASDA insurance is the next cheapest at 1100. elephant wanted £3000+, i think it really depends.

oh, one interesting thing is that quotes can be different when you call in the early mornings and in the afternoon, and that applies for different days of the month! i ve been told that if they ve not completed the certain target by the last few days of the month then they will just do what ever they can to get you on their policy!

It makes a huuuge difference whether the driver is male or female! If you do two quotes with the same company, one as a male and one as a female with exactly the same details it can be a good couple of hundred pounds cheaper for the female particulary when under 21!

Ok, cheapest cars to insure are micra's, as far as my father thinks anyways :P

Certain insurance companies also reduce the price of the quote if there is an additional driver - I know elephant does this. I bought my old style micra auto for £280 and the insurance for a 21yo female driver with no ncb was £369.

21yo doesnt make that much of a difference, the best age bracket is 25 apparently.

Oh another quick thing - before buying a car/insurance etc please make sure the uni allow students to bring cars etc and where they can park - mine has a rule of no permit (and only those 1.5miles off campus can get one) = clamp = £20-40!!

Parker's Guide has some useful info.
Group 1 cars are cheapest to insure, this includes the Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 I quoted above...

    Yes, I am female!

It really depends on where you get your quote from.

For guys I recommend admiral as they insure my bf really cheaply and he drives a 1.9 pug GTI and is only 21!

For girls try elephant, diamond and tesco. Also heard direct line can be quite good too.

For my first years insurance I put my uncle on as second driver as he has never had an accident, had his licence for years and has a million years no claims. My premiums reduced by around £100.

Good luck guys, its pants being a "younger driver" ain't it!!!!

Wow! I just tried Admiral, for the Vauxhall Corsa 1.0, if I add both my parents on it comes to £700.30! That includes a £250 voluntary excess on top of the £250 compulsory excess though - without the voluntary excess it's £799 - still a lot cheaper than elsewhere!

Would definitely recommend you get a quote from Admiral...
