Good evening all,
I was wondering what sort of fertiliser you use. I've seen 6X being used as well as fungi and plant food pellets (such as miracle grow for instance). I don't want to waste money on unnecessary things.0 -
For me, good old fashioned kitchen waste compost plus tomorite on the tomatoes & peppers once the fruit has set. I started making my own nettle based feed last summer, but didn't get chance to use it - it's ready to go though
Edited to add, here's a photo from June, as it fermented it needed more rocks to keep the lid on
The compost bin is nicknamed Mr Peelings, so following the same logic this is Mr Stinky
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -

Hope you are winning the battle and glad to hear that you feel well enough to have fixed your workshop door even though it tired you out.
Have decided to move my growing area so am now quite grateful that I had not filled many of the beds. This weekend need to get posts put up and then finish with chicken wire. Hoping the chickens will still be happy with the size of garden that they will have instead of the whole garden.
Have loads of old out of date seeds so may give then a go instead of throwing them out along with some new fresh seeds.
Also need to get the greenhouse put up and can then grow plenty of chillis with some tomatoes and make sure i don’t overcrowd the greenhouse as its only a 6x6.
Will look and see if I can also fit a poly tunnel in the area as that would give me extra indoor growing room.
GMATLost my way for far too long but now back on board to lead a more simplistic lifestyle

@unrecordings pretty much. The view on the photo is South West. How could you tell?
@Suffolk lass the stuff is chippings. The garden was a mess when we moved in, and had the tree surgeon save the chippings for me to use for pathways. I was not expecting that much! I'm not sure what else I can do with it apart from compost it. If it does damage the fence I will just have to replace them.
I have tried Medlar jam and liked it, but never tried the fruit as is. I have read they need to be bletted/left to rot before they can be eaten. I like the idea of harvesting fruit in the autumn/winter.0 -

.
It looked like it was dusk
For the chippings, if they're from conifers, then I think maybe you can use them to increase soil acidity, like the xmas tree recycling link I posted a few days ago

Thanks
I've been pretty much housebound for a while, so the first few proper outings in the garden are tiring but invigorating. I keep a bag of seeds from various out of date packets. If they'll make good leafy pickings for ramen (like brassicas, bok choi, chard, annual herbs etc) then I sow them in trays in the greenhouse or cold frame. Otherwise I have a little spot at the bottom of the garden that I chuck other stuff

Clearly still tech-savvy though as you've managed to get some awesome pictures on here. Something I can NEVER achieve despite numerous tantrums. :rotfl:0 -

GMAT
We are hoping to do the same thing very soon. DOH is still sulking because I've asked him to do this and I think he'll still take more than they actually need. lol I think he loves those 2 birds more than me (can't blame him really they do cause him less hassle).0
