Got a few bits earlier in the week - bread, yellow sticker salad bits, biscuits, garlic bread and also got some new vegan pizzas that I really wanted to try. £10.30 for all that, bit more than usual for a top up shop but still on track to stay within budget for the month :D Had the planned meal for that evening today so nothing wasted.

Main shop done today, £52.39 so now I'm on £216.31/£390.00.
    Make £2020 in 2020 - £289.53 / £2020
    Grocery Challenge May 2020 - £ 0 / £360.00

Meal plan done for this coming week starting today.

£37.69 spent yesterday at Asda. I had to do an online shop as I'm not in a fit state to go out as my face is badly bruised. The order arrives this evening, I just hope they have everything I've ordered.

Hopefully if I stick to my meal plan I'll have enough to go to next weekend.

Total so far for month 99.15/200

    Morning all,

    I spent 99p on this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Eat-Shop-Save-mealplanners-healthier-ebook/dp/B07CLPWJ8S/ref=pd_rhf_ee_s_msx_wsixn_v1_0_3/259-3209195-4576300?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07CLPWJ8S&pd_rd_r=cacde8c2-2b0d-43af-ba95-1d687886b695&pd_rd_w=YAIgC&pd_rd_wg=jbsQw&pf_rd_p=911f26c3-a54b-43a9-911f-fad380f28632&pf_rd_r=BDQ2QPK1ZB3EPEHW9VAX&psc=1&refRID=BDQ2QPK1ZB3EPEHW9VAX

It’s not part of my grocery budget, but thought it might be useful to someone :D

NSD other than that, Christmas leftovers (again) tonight, simple supper, cheese and crackers, will have a glass or 2 of wine too :D

Ooohhh.... Bought! Thank you! (I’m a sucker for recipe books! My favourite frugal one is “How to Feed Your Family on £4 a Day” by Bernadette Laurence followed by Rose Elliot’s “Cheap and Easy Vegetarian Cooking”. I’ve had both since 1992.)

Someone - apologies, I can’t remember who - mentioned that they bought dried chickpeas. I cook them all the time and would suggest that you freeze them for at least six hours after soaking - it breaks down the cell walls a bit so a) reduces cooking time slightly, and b) makes them far more creamy, giving a texture closer to the tinned ones. I throw the frozen lump of chickpeas into the cooking pot, poor over boiling water, bring to the boil and cook until soft. (If you don’t have a pressure cooker, boil for at least 10 minutes before turning down to a simmer. That will destroy any toxins.)

Given the soaking and cooking times, I’d also suggest batch cooking chickpeas. I cook 600g at a time, which is enough for three meals, and then freeze the other two meals-worth.

2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge 66 coupons - 29.5 spent.

    4 - Thermal Socks from L!dl
4 - 1 pair "combinations" (Merino wool thermal top & leggings)
6 - Ukraine Forever Tartan Ruana wrap
    12 - yarn
    1.5 - sports bra
    2 - leather wallet
  • Just updated my totals. £1.50 spent at newsagents on ice pops and £10.50 in A$da.

Seems very restrained, truth is we have been really poorly, I’m still sick. I have a drs appointment today at 1.30.

Not the best start to 2020!

Take care in these high winds!

    €25.63 spent today

I needed a few bits and bobs which I get specially from Mercadona. I also am a sucker for their bakery so I got my girl a cheese and bacon tart thingy.

    €230.20 left

€58.44 spent in Aldi and Lidl over today and yesterday

The Aldi haul included lots of cheese which my husband eats quite s bit of plus some of his reduced Christmas goodies. They do something called Porvornes (think I’ve spelt it right!) and he got 4kg of them for €4 which he was delighted with.

Aldi has some offers on Frito (like passata only nicer), peppers, Indian spices, naan and oriental stuff which they rarely do. We’ve got to go back Monday as they have got chickpeas and lentils on offer which I use a lot of so will stock up on that. I’m trying to wear down what we have got in at the moment.

    €171.76 left

Bread, butter, drinks for work bought in local shop this morning. My month ends on the 19th so not long to go. Apart from salad bits shouldn’t need too much so shud have some savings this month.
