The other main win of the day was that we were headed out just before lunch so I suggested we eat before going out. I felt DOH's heart drop as loves to eat out but it's so expensive even in a cafe.

I bought some dried chickpeas on BOGOF for £1.29. Never used them before but going to give a chickpea curry a go. Also picked up some omega mix of seeds which look fab. Love putting these on soups and salads and even on breakfast cereal or with oats.

Also, I had to make up some milk today as our usual delivery is on a Thursday but due to the holidays it is on Friday. I always keep dried milk in for baking and so made a pint up and poured it into a cleaned out milk jug. I've done this in the past also to save on plastic, but also to keep me out of the shops as it's never just a pint of milk is it?

Will update figures later. Hope everyone's had a good day.

MEP I so agree with you re men and milk! My DH is the same, any chance to eat out. Like you, I try to eat BEFORE I go out! and isnt it interesting how often milk gets mentioned on this thread? 'popping out for milk' has ruined many a good intention of mine.

BBCGood Food has lots of good recipes for chick pea dishes, often very simple and yummy. I mean to use more dried pulses and I WILL get round to it in future!

Surprisingly small spend in Ald1, about £30 which should keep us in meals til Monday. Including a huge pack of toiler toll, great value - but turned out to be strongly scented, wish I'd read the label properly!!

£4.32 spent this morning on a couple of loaves of "artisan" bread (a large long-fermentation white and a French stick) and a small hand of bananas. Most of the bread vanished at lunchtime, along with a vat of turkey noodle soup. But DS1, his lovely lady & the puppy have gone back to Town now & DS3 is off tomorrow afternoon, then we'll be back to the usual 4 adults, the menagerie, plus various poppers-in & weekend guests to feed.

We're still running mostly on leftovers, but the last of the puddings have just vanished, and I'll be replenishing the fruit & veg stocks at the market tomorrow morning. There's turkey & ham in the freezer, and half a salmon yet to be eaten up; DS1's given me an interesting idea for that. I've baked some savoury flapjacks & Norwegian buns today as we're down to the last of the Christmas cake, mince pies & butter tarts. However there's still a ton of cheese to go! OH will sort that out...

And in other news, I made some sourdough blinis for our New Year's "murder mystery" celebration. One of our German student guests taught me how a couple of years back - bless the lad, he was actually half Russian & loved cooking; the other lads just wanted to play computer games & watch American TV shows - but I hadn't made them since. Delicious! And very versatile; you can eat them with sweet or savoury toppings. A great idea for "exercising" a sourdough starter when you don't actually need to make bread, rather than just throwing the excess away.

Small spend to report - £8.10 mainly on milk bread and fruit although bagged a few 'seasonal' reductions - pigs in blankets, sausage meat and a truckle of star shaped cheese. My lot would eat PIB's at every meal given chance!
Still working through the vegetable mountain - made baked spicy rice and chicken curry for last night meal with raita and YS nan bread - all leftovers packed and gone today for two lunches.
Popped a couple of jackets in oven with a frittata whilst rice was baking so lunch sorted for couple of days.
Good luck with the chickpea curry MEP - be aware it is addictive!

I remember having it on holiday about 20 years ago - we went back to that restaurant 4 nights in a row. I'm very excited.

£61.76 on last two months milk delivery as I messed up the payments. Now we're back on track so it will be half of this in future.
