Good morning, hope it’s all going well so far, early days but I’m rather positive about this month.

Did an online shop yesterday to be delivered Monday as it’s a cheaper, flexible delivery window From Mr T. My nearest big supermarket is miles away and I spend more in fuel getting there than I do to have it delivered. I’ve realised that if I can get it on a Wednesday or late Tuesday evening then the flexible slots are only £1. As it is, I’ve paid £2 this week.

I’ve tried shopping at Aldee but haven’t found a huge difference in price with Mr T, especially when you buy the cheaper range. Then factor in the clubcard points which come in very handy for birthday trips out etc, the tendency to impulse buy when you’re in the shop and the fact my nearest shop requires quite a trip out, then it really does make more sense to do it online and get it delivered. We used to have a Mr S delivery pass but that’s out of the window for this year.

Total so far is £48.71 but I know I’ll have to add a few bits as it’s DS3s 3rd birthday next week and I’ve (stupidly) decided to throw a little family tea party. I’m not going all out with nursery friends because I’ve seen 3 year olds at parties and they’re either ignoring each other or fighting over activities/toys. He can have a proper party next year...maybe. I know I’m going to run out of milk but think we might just get by stealing the baby’s whole milk to make up for it.

Next week’s menu is planned and I’m sure I’ll stick to it just as well as I have been for the last year, which is to say sausage ragu regularly turns into sausage sandwiches and all other meals get moved around as I realise I’ve not put the slow cooker on in time lol.

  • Happy new year everyone!

I've ordered a click and collect from azda for today and will pick up OH yoghurts from tesc0, which should last us the week. That will bring us to £60.18 so far this month and I really don't want to spend anymore if I can help it :)

Logging a spend of £5.17 went with a list and came out with exactly only what was on the list!
Interesting thing I noticed in the shop, milk. It was exactly the same milk in exactly the same size. But on one shelf it was 1p more expensive than the other shelf next to it. How does that work?
I picked it up and sure enough it scanned as the more expensive one. But how can they get away with the labels showing different prices? I checked, the milk was semi skimmed, 4 pints. Exactly the same label, exactly the same milk. But one was 48.5p per litre and the other 48p

I’d like to join again for this year. Please can you put me down for £200.00 for January. This is to cover food/toiletries/household bits for myself, DH, 3 cats and 14 chickens.

Pantry is full and freezer not too far behind. Lots of pulses to use although not sure what to make with them.

    Thanks

  • I haven't done this tyoe of challenge before - I prefer just to moan about how much we spend on groceries! So this month I will just keep track and then look how much I can save easily. The problem is that I have already doen the easy things - we buy very little branded, shop at Asda/ Lidl which in our area are the chepaest, go economy range where we can...

I think we are just stuck in a food rut so I was very excited to see the big list of recipes.

    Wish me luck!

    Hello all

Yesterday was a NSD as all the supermarkets are closed here on NYD!

We went into Palma and saw the Christmas lights on. They really are so pretty. We had a couple of drinks and a bag of churros with dipping chocolate (all different budget) and it really was a lovely day

Today I went into Aldi and spent €4.07 on fruit and bread. I’ve made is a lentil soup for dinner as my girl seems to really enjoy soups at the moment

    €295.93 left

Please can I join, need to get back into MS and this is the first tentative step. Christmas was a nightmare, Partner gambled the money I'd put away to finish the kitchen....he'd lost his son in May, had just moved in, self-employed and wanted to make it 'the best Christmas ever'...it wasnt. But New Year, New Start. That in mind, can I set a budget for £130 please, to include 3 adults, 2 dogs and 4 cats, and this will include all pet, cleaning and personal stuff. Thankfully got a bit in.

Happy New Year to you all

Hugs to you and your partner, Fizz. Grief is hard to deal with. In your shoes, I’m not sure I’d trust him with money but, hopefully, he’s learned his lesson.

  • £6.94 spent today in Home Bargains as I needed deodorant, shower gel etc. Still in the mode of using what I’ve got, I made a creamy red pepper sauce with pasta for dinner from a Happy Pear recipe on YouTube, absolutely delicious.
