Go back to 1948 and see what George Orwell thought a terriffying dystopian future would like like. Now see how much of it has come true but more importantly how little people care.
Strip search? No? Why not? You hidding something?0 -
Years ago there were water fountains. On hikes/bike rides I used to call at shops, houses, cafes. With my metal flask, asking for water.
OK That was 50 years ago so I was ahead of my time.
Rarely buy water. Except in India.
Now we can refill our bottles in many places. Most coffee shops and cafes will have drinking water available. Thoroughly MSE ?
I have to blame the older generation who taught me to be prepared and told me that in the war they carried metal flasks. So when runners go round Regents Park, take a refillable bottle. Saves the Planet , although the Planet will save itself. Tis only us 'umans that want to save us 'umans. The Planet doesn't care an atom about 'umans!0 -

Don't worry in a few years they'll invent something that archaeologists can dig up in 500 years from the local landfill.... I'm sure they'll be blaming THAT generation as well!0 -

After all, it's more profitable to have someone buy a new vacuum every few years, than it is to have them only buy 1/2 in their lifetime.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Also, I wish that deliberate obsolescence was a problem only for iPhones (I don't have an iphone either), or even phones, but sadly it isn't. Phones were just a rather prolific example that sprang to mind. People of ALL generations have fallen prey to the desire of easily upgrading a phone. Something my 16 year old niece and 78 year old father have in common.
But sadly, almost all electrical equipment is built to fail these days, not built to last (as it used to be).
As for the suggestion by singleton of possible strip searches in the future. Come on. There's a world of difference between someone capturing a bit of video surveillance of you, and getting naked. Of course people would object to the latter. The former happens to almost everyone multiple times a day. I'm not sure why one form of CCTV is deemed worse than the other, simply because you are more aware of its presence. Surely the more hidden ones would be a greater concern? Also, there is definitely value in it, not just for criminal activity, but in trying to trace last known whereabouts of missing people. In some cases, more CCTV would be better.February wins: Theatre tickets0
