OP......you say supermarket road junction,is their any chance of cctv from the supermarket shop/petrol station.Although if yes you/police might have to jump through hoops to get access

jump through hoops to get access - Is there any hope of that?

    You? Not a hope.
Your insurer? Maybe, but they won't bother trying.
Police? Definitely, but they're unlikely to bother trying.

It's easy to say while you're sat in your nice comfy armchair as you reply to a post on an internet forum with the fire on.

It can be a little bit different in reality.
Not to mention it also depends on the type of person you are. For all i know you could've been the sort to be seen on Jeremy Kyle itching to have a punch up with Steve. The OP on the other hand might get scared by their own farts.

Anyway, for the OP ... people on here will tell you you need to contact your insurance company immediately.

Technically you're supposed to but me personally i'd get quotes for the cost of repair from some independent garages and then run some quotes on an insurance comparison ... A) to take out insurance as though you've another years no claims and this incident never happened and then B) unless you've got protected no claims, run it as though you've lost some years (a relative of mine lost 2 years for their claim) and you have this claim on record.

See what the outcome is and then decide if you want to contact your insurance company about getting this damage repaired through them.

If you report it to them then that's it, for the next 5 years you'll have to declare it. No it wasn't your fault but then insurance companies don't care, they just want your money.

Been there & suffered it myself. Told the company someone hit me & drove off. I didn't claim to have the damage repaired but i've another 3 years of having to report it & pay for having 'done the right thing' - which lands me out of pocket.

I'll get crucified on here for that point of view but then what else is new. I get moaned at regardless of what i post so it's just another day in the life here. I'm just warning you what happened with me so you can decide whether you want it to happen to you too or not.

See what the outcome is - what do you mean? It seems from the replies I just have to put up with it - What other outcome could there be?

Somebody's going to have to pay...

Three options, unless you can think of something else.
    1. You? Your choice. If you decide not to tell your insurer, remember to keep that story straight for the next five years.
    2. Your insurer? They'll certainly pay, assuming comp cover. They'll ding your NCB as an at-fault, of course, because their hand is in their pocket.
    3. The other driver's insurer? Oooookay, and...?

    So who else...?

Don't give up.......if there was cctv you just have kick up a fuss with the police or insurance company and don't give up,this might be of help

The police won't have to jump through hoops.

I told you to get some quotes.

Go visit some body shops to get a quote from them to see what they'd charge you to repair your vehicle.

Jump on a comparison website, fill out the info as though you didn't have an incident and then do it again as though you did.

See what the outcome is. I can't tell you what it'd be because i've not gone to your local body shops and gotten quotes for damage i've not even seen ... but you can.
I've not ran your details through comparison websites - but you can.

It may well be cheaper in the long run to get it repaired through your insurance or it may not. Before diving in to anything with both feet you really ought to get an idea of cost before you can't go back.

You may decide you don't wish to repair the damage, who knows. I don't know what the damage is. Maybe you can continue driving as it is, maybe not. I chose not to have mine repaired as the damage wasn't the end of the world.

People here will try to scare you in to 'doing the right thing'. They'll make out like the government will be camped outside your door because you're a bad bad person for not reporting it to your insurance company immediately.

They tried the exact same thing with me and nobody came knocking at my door.

They (many on here) act like they're holier than thou but i'm sure you delve in to their lives enough they wont be as squeaky clean as they like to make out. At the end of the day, do what you feel is best for you.

And don't forget, this guy didn't stop, so highly unlikely he has your plate either, so chances of him reporting you saying you hit him are very likely slim to zero. So all this scaring that some of these will be trying to do on you is a waste of time.

EDIT: Regards the CCTV. I don't know the legal ins and outs but i haven't seen it suggested yet, which makes me think it's not an option.
But have you thought of going to this supermarket, asking for the manager, saying you were involved in an incident at xx:xx hours on X-date at X-location of the car park, you understand that you cannot see the CCTV yourself but can they please take a look to see if their video shows anything at all?

    Don't ask...don't get.

it's easy to do in reality.

Jeremy kyle seems more like your tv if the best you can do is advise a bit of fraud.

Don't put your real details in though. Insurers get to see the information you put in and a quote with an incident and one without will raise a load of red flags.

    True.

I've actually done it myself and never had an issue. Never had a phone call. The only time i ever had was over an accident i apparently had. Turned out it was my brother, in his own vehicle, registered at his own address and not mine, which i cleared up on the phone.

But yeah, if you're bothered, just call yourself Mickey Mouse.
